Guest guest
Hello Ramesh, Your question about thirteen is interesting and an old one in the West. Traditionally the "unluckiness" of the number 13 is due to the number of Jesus´disciples, 12, and him being the 13th who was condemned to death. He was also crucified on Friday hence the Friday the 13th fear in the West. In Japan where I lived a number of years, 4 is considered unlucky because the character rhymes with "death"=shi. 42 is the worst nuber since it is pronounced exactly like "death or die"= shi-ni. I have never found such superstitions to play a role in my life and like you I have a daughter and the sparkle in her eyes is enough to dispel any notion of unlucky or not! And hello Jay, I enjoyed your piece in the last digest about inclusivism and exclusivism,. These ideas are part of a lovely book by Diana Eck called "Encountering God" which I highly recommend. As I wrote a while back, I think it is essential we learn from "inside the circle" and that means putting aside our own notions, like "God" for example, and just listen. The Absolute is just that, and we are all Relative. With palms pressed together JoséRamakrishna wrote:
