Guest guest
So we are "evolved brutes" after all??? Evolution Slate Outpolls Rivals By LAURIE GOODSTEIN Published: November 9, 2005 The New York Times. All eight members up for re-election to the Pennsylvania school board that had been sued for introducing the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in biology class were swept out of office yesterday by a slate of challengers who campaigned against the intelligent design policy. "We are all for it being discussed, but we do not want to see it in biology class," said Judy McIlvaine, a member of the winning slate. "It is not a science." http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/09/national/09dover.html?th & emc=th And an interesting letter from a reader; Great designer With reference to God & Science, it is assumed that God has some kind of form which can be observed by humans. The naivety of this notion is best understood when we imagine a God several thousands of light-years in size, or, at the other extreme, the size of an elusive subatomic particle like the neutrino. The grandeur and beauty of the Universe may be reasons for interpolating the existence of a supernatural being, but is it absolutely necessary for that being to have a definite shape and form? Actually we humans can’t help imagining a discernible structure of that supreme being — even if it is an imaginary creature or a heavenly voice. In The Black Cloud, Sir Fred Hoyle, the British astronomer, envisaged a vast but rarefied black cloud which he thought is alive and capable of communicating with intelligent beings like humans. What if the Universe itself is an intelligent organism, capable of guiding its own evolution and that of everything within its ambit?
