Dear Arnab,

If you go through the archives, you will see that we have already

discussed on this issue under the head, " Brahmacharya " . However I

will raise one point here.

People are usually extremely scared of the term " celibacy " . They

feel that it means absolute turning away from physical desires. But

this is not necessarily so. Celibacy means self control. In this new

avatar it takes an entirely new meaning. It means the development of

the mind, heart and emotions so that the physical does not get out

of control. It is essentially the strengthening of ones character by

not allowing baser elements of any kind to dominate ones overall

makeup. They will be there yes, but under control.

Swami Sivananda of Divine Life Society and also Mahatma Gandhi have

written extensively on this subject. You can refer to their books or

search for them in the internet.

While writing the above I am not referring to the Order of the Monks.

Regards,

Jagannath.
