Guest guest
Hi, > My last question is can one be a complete Hindu > if he/she believes in the faith but donot practise > the customs and rituals (Vedic puja)? Krishna considers the religion of " selfless action combined with devotion to the Supreme Lord " as better than Vedic rituals performed with the desire of its fruits in this world and the next. Also, when a ritual is performed with the fruit as the objective, not completing the ritual will not result in the fruit or may result in contrary results. The person who attains wisdom by spiritual practice as prescribed by Krishna has a direct knowledge of the Truth and the Vedas are not needed for him. Krishna also criticises strongly people who are charmed by the sound, poetry, etc of the Vedas lose sight of the actual message. The society restricts the Vedic rituals to only a few sections of people. The spiritual practice prescribed by Krishna are universal. There are specific Vedic rituals for longivity, rain, children, etc. Krishna says explicitly that it is the Supreme Lord (Himself) who gives the fruits of all the Vedic rituals. So worshipping Him is a more direct and effective way. The preparations needed for a Vedic ritual is very elaborate. But worship as told by Krishna is very easy. The ingredients are like a leaf, a flower, a fruit or even just water. If this is not possible, whatever you eat, give in charity, whatever austerities you perform can be offered to the Lord. Regarding spiritual practices, Krishna gives a nice gradation in Chapter 12, sloka 12. " Than (a mere formal) practice of disciplines, a clear intellectual understanding (of the doctrine) is better. Than such understanding, meditation is better. Even better than meditation is the abandonment of the fruits of action. For, such abandonment (of the fruits of works and sense of their agency) is immediately followed by peace. " With regards, Gomu.
Guest guest
Namaste Gomuji With regard to rituals which covers both vedic and tantric...they are a neccessity when you do spiritual practises at the conclusion you have to a homa, the fire in the homa is like a postman who delivers your noble intentions to the intended deity besides in the vedic puja..dont you do the nyasa's to purify yourself..these nyasa's are very powerful since they establish the oneness of diety in you and you are protected from all evil forces namaste SP
Guest guest
Dear Gomu, Rituals are for people in general, to keep them in a chosen path so they do not deviate from the discipline in life. When mind flies from one end to another, wonder around in vague areas, travel relentlessly from one kind of thinking to another - a chosen guideline may help to keep that mind in a somewhat controlled fashion! Vedic rituals, at times are so elaborate in actions that in today's life it becomes virtually impossible to follow! When Guru / teacher advice his student, who has received the recognition or degree shall we say : He says " Satyan na pramaditabyam, Dharman na pramaditabyam, Kushalanya pramaditabyam" then says "Esha Adesha", "Asha Upadesha", "Asha Vedopasisad", "Atad Anusashanam" etc. Essence of message in life from the vedas is to follow a life of very strict discipline. It is explained in the Agamas. Find out truth, beauty, happiness in this life while doing your "Karma" and that is indeed your Dharma or Religion in a sense. Forget "Vedabhava", "Vedodristi" and see God in everything, and see everything in God. If you follow this Gomu, and I think you do, I feel you hardly need any rituals to back up your sense of "SPIRITUALITY". You are a perfect Hindu. May God protect you, guide you and grant you "Samastam Akhilam" meaning everything you desire and deserve. Om tat sat. Asis Bagchi Photos Got holiday prints?
