Guest guest
Hello wise friends. thank you for all your insight, and especially the words of swami vivekanada, who seems to have had great understaning and clarity of thought, without the need to sound overly intellectual. Here's my dilemma, I'm a jazz musician ( struggling ) , and also I have Ph.D. in music composition, but I resigned my post due to the corruption, politics, pettiness, greed, and outright triviality of the whole endeavour. ( York university in Toronto if you are interested ) <snip .. as the message was a bit too long for egroup> I am a follower of the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna ( just starting out, or rather coming back to him ), though I was raised a Christian. Somehow, though there were many things beautiful and reassuring about christianity, espeically 'love thy neighbor as thyself " .... it seemed to me there were other things about it that never sat well. Especially this business about needing to go out and convert people ( or at least that's how it was interpreted ), and also this fear that they teach, about going to hell, etc. Anyway I'm quite alone here in Edmonton Canada. Perhaps I am due for a return trip to India. it was pure coincidence ( God's will) that I had the opportunity to meet, play with, and study with Ajoy Chakrobarty. I feel that jazz is an immature music, which must at some future point evolve into a synthesis of indian classical music. I find the contributors to this group very wise. Perhaps you can offer some guidance as to the wisdom of the personal web page idea, and any other spiritual guidance. Sincerely, Glen Halls.
