Guest guest
Friends Here is an extract from Swami Vivekananda's life Vol. II, page 148 of print edition (it is taken from CD on Swami Vivekananda prepared by Advaita Ashram, Kolkata.) The prophecy given by Swami Vivekananda seems to be coming true as revealed by Shri Jay's efforts in this regard under the banner of Swami Vivekananda Center London. Regards Chetan " During his stay in England, both before and after his visit to the Continent, the Swami himself was pleased with the results of his work in London. To one of his closest American friends he wrote (almost in a mood of prophecy concerning the future character and success of his mission) that he believed in the power of the English to assimilate great ideas; that though the process of assimilation might be slow, it would be all the more sure and abiding. He often spoke of the hold the Vedanta would eventually have in England and believed that the time would come when distinguished ecclesiastics of the Church of England, imbued with the truth and the idealism of the Vedanta, would form a liberal community within that Church itself, supporting the universality of religion, both in vision and in practice. Guest guest
Hi, Without trying to sound too negative, I cant see this ever happening. The Church of England is becoming a much more ritually strict form of Christianity, its aims seem to be converging with those of Roman Catholics, their main 'thrust' as with most Christians is that Jesus is 'the light and the way' and that there is no other way. Most Christians in this country have very little knowledge of any religions other than their own, they have a very blinkered atitude. On an even MORE negative note, the ideals of the west at the moment seem to be of a very materialistic nature. The younger generations are being influenced very strongly by a materialistic media. It is very easy to be involved in a religious/spiritual path or way, and to be involved with like minded people. This can give an 'illusion' that society in general is moving in the 'right' direction. Unfortunately it isnt. Much as the works and teachings of spiritual leaders are jewels amongst the 'mess' of this world, the world continues to make itself an even bigger 'mess' and most people are totally blind to the radiance of these jewels. Let me share my personal experience in this matter. Church of England. In the last couple of weeks I have participated at four interfaith events (mostly organised by Church of England). All the presentations were well received and though the Christian ministers at these events find some of the ideas presented by a Pluralist Hindu quite challenging.. they are gaining acceptance...This is no exaggeration.. I am invited more often at interfaith meetings to give talks than at Hindu temples! Youth. I have been doing rounds in schools and colleges and universities in the last month. I must have conducted 7 school assemblies + two sixth form seminars on many issues of challenges faced by religions from rationalists. This morning I did a major session for Lampater University for university students studying agreement and disagreement between Christianity and Hinduism. I find that these youngsters very keen to explore ideas of spirituality that is not confined to religious expression. I find this very refreshing. UK is buzzing with lot of interesting and innovative ideas. jay Vivekananda Centre
Guest guest
Dear group members, When something happens, it happens like a flash! In no time ignorance vanish quickly giving rise to knowledge. Planning, estimating, manipulating or any attempt of chopping or changing disappear as though it never ever existed when light comes in life. That light then guides humanity for years, then it gets tarnished by different angular visions/adaptations, manipulative tinkering and so on until another flash comes in to save earthly situations like - it goes on and on. Stay truthful, without "Vedabuddhi", focus your attention to avoid "Asesho Bhavana Dosham" you will see the subtle changes in the realm of Spirituality. It is happening but slowly and surely. We are moving through a time in the preparation stage perhaps before the Prophecy comes to vision. Om tat sat. Asis Bagchi New Messenger with Voice. Call regular phones from your PC and save big. Guest guest
Dear Victor, Namaste. I believe what Swamiji said does not apply to the masses but to the class known as " devotees " . I have met many noble souls in the internet who are " ready " , if we are to quote Sri Ramakrishna. It is amazing how these English, American and European people have imbibed the knowledge of the Vedas in their own way. The movement is currently beneath the surface. It will take a long time and many calamities for the various religious institutions of all faiths to imbibe the world religion. I too get frustrated with the current scenario but then I remember , " It is the darkest just before dawn " . Regards, Jagannath.
