Guest guest
Advanced level courses in Hinduism as supported by the largest examination board in England (Edexcel) no longer specify 'Hereditary Caste' as a topic of study in Hinduism from September 2006. The topics at GCSE continue to incorporate hereditary caste system in an apologetic manner. We have made it clear at the Department of Education conference held on 2nd March that this cannot be allowed to continue. The fact that we have managed to persuade the board to remove this topic from Advanced level study is a clear signal that we are winning this argument and hereditary caste will not be taught as Hinduism in English schools. In the United Kingdom Hindus can change the way Hinduism is portrayed by using sheer force of reason, and win. In the United States it seems the only way Hindus can win is by adopting the American way ~ litigation! jay lakhani Vivekananda Centre London
