Guest guest
This is in response to Vasanth’s email about Swamiji and eating beef. According to Swami Nikhalananda’s book “Vivekananda A Biography” in the chapter “As a Wandering Monk” Swamiji was asked about what he considered the most glorious period of Indian history. He mentioned the Vedic period when ‘five Brahmins used to polish off one cow’. He advocated animal food for Hindus if they were to cope at all with the rest of the world in the present reign of power and find a place among the other great nations, whether within or outside the British Empire. This must have taken place sometime in 1892 or early 93, and I think someplace in Southern India, probably Trivandrum. Somdev Roy
