Guest guest
The following email expressing concerns about Hinduism needs a response...................jay ===================email===================== Hi Jai, If you belong to Ramakrishna Math, please give me some clarification if possible.I am a 22 year old girl. Though I'm a Hindu, I did my schooling in a Convent. And I do not know a lot about Hinduism, but now I seem to realise now that the importance Christians give to Christianity, and to service of man, is not prevalent among Hindus, and the so-called high-caste people seem to perform pujas, and study the Vedas, but I don't think they even practise what they read. They are more towards maintaining their identity in the society, than to serve others. Even to help a person they first want to know what caste that person belongs to. And since I never had any such experiences in my younger days in school, and I see such discrimination among the ppl around me, even my parrents, and relatives, I don't know if Hinduism will ever grow at all, if they continue to have such motive. I would like to help in a small way atleast, to spread the real truth about Hinduism, and to the service of others. So, if I can be of assistance in some way towards this cause, I will be more than willing. Regards, <name withheld>
Guest guest
Dear young friend, Sri Ramakrishna Mission and disciples of Sri Ramakrishna and Vivekananda have been serving the humanity without any distinction ever since its inception. Be it Famine or floods or earthquake or Tsunami or man made causes or peace time, they have always been in the forefront of providing succor to all (without exception) afflicted. Their services has always recieved praise from the recievers, the Government of the day and the common man. Even today they run hospitals and health clincs in many of their centers. These centers of service say in Kankhal(Hardwar), Varanasi, Mumbai, New Delhi etc can be visited by any one any time to see for himself/herself the dedicated work done there. Recently during Tsunami apart from Governement, it was Ramakrishna mission, Sewa Bharati, Anandamayi Maa and many other Hindu organisation which provided help to sufferers without distinctions. And surprisingly Christian Missioneries who came to help, restricted their help to only christians and to those who were prepared to get converted both in India and in Sri Lanka as reported by the press, which normally and invariably praises them. It has been the experience of non-christian countries that help provided by Christian Missioneries even in the normal course in the field of education, health care or poverty removal is invariably tied with conversion. Taking people including students so helped away from their roots is also a form of conversion. In India Hindu organisations such as Ramakrishna Mission, Sewa Bharati, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Swami Vivekananda Kendra and many others have provided help to all affected people without any discrimination as seen at site, as mentioned by affected people and as per News Reports. And all this is without any motive. As regards how many people practice what their Religion tells them, it can be safely said that percentage is always small the world over irrespective of which religion is followed. History of past two centuries tells us in clear terms that Christian Missioneries and invading armies of imperial powers went hand in hand to subjugate and convert the people of Asia and Africa! The result is there for everybody to see. They were not practicing any of Christ's teachings in doing this! With time corruption in practice of any system does come in. It is to the credit of Hinduism that the requisite reforms are introduced and implemented from time to time consistent with the age. A few weeks back a group of Math Adhipaties in South India met to consider a Report of a year long research, which said that practice of caste by birth was never supported by any of the religious books of Hindus and that it was an abberation which came in society due to invasion of foreigners and their rule in the country during the past several centuries. I hope this data will be of help to view various happenings in its proper prospect. Guest guest
Hi, In continuation with this topic it will be good if I add some of my personal experiences and ideas. Hinduism or Vedantism always upholds the truth of serving others. It is no exaggaration if we say that service to not only humanity but also other subhumans or living beings is the essence of this ancient religion. "Bahujana sukhaya, bahujana hitaya jagaddhitaya cha" -- is what we have learnt from our very childhood and from Hindu schools. Certainly present Hindu organization's services to the human kind and others lack pomp and show, the glamour and commercial representation but if we are really keen to delve inside truth then we would see how Hindu organizations are struggling hard with their meagre financial source and without any discrimination. The christian organizations in India will hardly stand by your side if you do not praise them or assure them to get converted. and they are easily highlighted for their rich store of funds. They penetrate the deep terrains and forests in order to target the illiterate and deprived Hindu communities luring them with money and material and food. The poor classes are not to be blamed. This is the first hand information and I am openly inviting anybody to validate these facts. Bharat Seva Ashram Sangh, as evident from the name that it is a Hindu organization meant for service to the community is now presently picking up these tribal classes and educating them. The most pitiful fact is, whenever you see any relgious preacher other than Hinduism you will find that their sole and ultimate intention is conversion. They do not at all believe in religion pluralism. And needless to say, Hinduism openly declares the greatness of all religions.
Guest guest
It is the same in every religion. A few saints, some sincere seekers and quite a few religious hypocrites and «businessman»... Maybe in a convent you got a different impression but living in a 90% catholic country and having visited India a few times even with all the superficiality, the «bogus guru syndrome» and probably getting progressively more materialistic as time goes by I do have the impression that religion an spirituality is much more alive in India than in so called catholic countries. But at the end for the majority religion is at the best more of a tradition issue (if any at all) and between the family and career concerns there is no much time or interest for that. Guest guest
Hi, Though I live in a Christian country and I am Christian by birth, I had never believed that such great and sublime ideas about service of man could ever exist as those of Swami Vivekananda. Have you read his teachings? Though I don't know much about Hinduism, I believe Sri Ramakrishna's and Swami Vivekananda's ideas and teachings represent Hinduism in the fullest measure. I believe also they are growing and spreading more and more in the world. Regards, MilenaRamakrishna wrote:
Guest guest
This is so true.. not only in India but Malaysia is worst.. We have Indian condeming Hinduism, not only that they do not want to take part in thier own parents funeral rites.. saying its satanic worship..(this are the new born christian)not only that they throw the hindu Alter with they have been praying into the Garbage..Because of this their elderly parents have to follow.. these people are really weired.. all their action revolves around churches and how some their Pastor interprets the bible, they dont think for themself.. We have to educate our young ones, on the beauty of hinduism, This remind me on what Vivekananda said, Religion is like a river coming from all direction to meet the Great ocean.. This have to be thought in all churches first..
