Hi Neo, I feel it is next to impossible to bring out the 'Real meaning' of Sanskrit verses in other languages. Because Sanskrit does not stand like a mere language, Sanskrit is the perfect manifestation of our realization. So, hard it is may be impossible to give out the exact translation. But still we must try. Om Sahana Babatu, Om Sahan Bhunaktu, Saha Biryam karaba bahoi, Tejaswina Bodhi tamastu, Ma Bidbihsa bahoi, Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanit.... Refers to the the chanting of both Guru and the Sishya together, they are praying to the lord ( mark it that here not only the learner but also the teacher praying) "Oh Lord, let us acquire the knowledge of truth together, let us have the divine food (that constiute our bodies and give us engergy) together, let purity and celibacy flow in all of our minds and bodies, let us shine with

strength together, may we never feel jealous and hateful to each other (as the student often feels jealous to the teacher or vice versa)....peace peace peace (but shanti cannot be put exactly as peace..). Asato ma Sadgamaya, Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya, Mrityurma Amritam gamaya Oh Lord, lead us from the world of lies (Maya) to the abode of truth (Satyam), lead us from the darkness of ignorance (Tamas) to the light of bliss and knowledge (Jyoti), lead us from the world of mortality and death (Mrityu) to the world immortal and eternal (Amrit). But, I would really be gladif someone can give a better interpretation than given above.

Namasthae ji, the first sloka goes like this, " Om sahana bavathu, sahanav bunathu, sahaveeryam kara vaava hai, Tejasvinavathi namasthu, Om vidvishava haihi, Om Shanthi shanthi shanthi " I dont know the exact meaning of this. The second one is, " Om Asatho ma sath gamaya, Thamaso ma jothir gamaya, Mruthyo ma amritham gamaya " It means " there is no ignorance when knowledge has come"( Asath is 'ignorance', ma means 'no', sath is 'knowledge', gamaya means the phase ' when it arrives' ) " There is no darkness when light has come" ( thamas is ' darkness' and jothi is ' light') " There is no death when necter has come" ( mruthyam is 'death' and amritham is' necter') The above explanation is the litrary meaning of the sloka but the essence of it goes like this, " Like necter comes

to rescue us from death and light from darkness, knowledge come to rescue us from ignorance or Agnyan." Do inform me if u come know the meaning of the first one. Pranam, divya
