Western Oriental Gentleman

Dear Members

 

I seem to remember that Swami Vivekananda had used a term like: ' Westernised Oriental Gentleman' in a disparaging manner to highlight the rush by some Hindus to embrace Western way of life. Can anyone give me the exact reference?

Dear Jay,

 

So far as I remember Swamiji refers to something to that effect in one

of his letters, probably to Alasinga, but I have not found the exact

refence so far.

I found this:

 

......Think that up to date every blackguard of a Hindu that had

hitherto come to western lands had too often criticised his own

faith and country in order to get praise or money. You know that I

did not come to seek name and fame; it was forced upon me....

There might be other such expressions in the Complete Works as well.
