Guest guest
Dear Friends, Reading the lectures of Swamiji, especially those he made during his travels from Colombo to Almora, I have oftentimes felt thrilled and energized beyond words. As we read his words, even some of the grandest but seemingly far-fetched ideas like India conquering the world thru her Spirituality, appear to hold a new meaning and strength. In my life, I have benefited greatly from applying techniques like visualization (mental imagery) and affirmations towards improving the quality of my life and in trying to "live life to the fullest". Recently, I have also started applying them to Swamiji's teachings, to those ideas especially that have "shaken me". I feel that we can enrich our lives still further, and contribute more towards achieving his Cause by doing them. And just by the way, both these techniques - imagery as well as affirmations - are essential part of Indian spiritual tradition !! What I would suggest is - to begin with, a few quick steps - 1) As we read the books by Swamiji, identify those truths that influences, motivates and energizes us the most 2) Create mental images, visualizing a scenario where Swamiji's ideals have become the Truth and with you, us, everyone actively taking part in achieving the goals 3) Actively visualize, using all our senses, and do it regularly, at least about 5-10 minutes daily 4) Create affirmation statements from Swamiji's key sayings 5) Repeating these affirmations 200-300 times a day, and writing them down 6) Both these techniques, when followed regularly, lead to radical changes in our life, in a short time. There is a theory (current among psychologists specializing in sports and other areas) that this happens because, the change the subconscious mind is extremely powerful (as we all might have heard before) but could not distinguish between actual fact and "products of active imagination - like repeated imagery and affirmations". When we involve all our senses in the experience the subconscious is faked into believing that the images are true and it shapes up our lives accordingly, for the better !! There are of course, numerous resources out in the web elaborating on on both these techniques. Some of us might have differing thoughts on the usefulness of these techniques. Those who benefited from them in other areas of their life, like me, might be encouraged to try them out! Regards, Hari
