Guest guest
Dear Friends, My recent reseacrh on the functional and theological perspectives of Inida's Castes system redirects me repeatedly towards Manu Samhita. I understand that Rig veda elaborates well on the on the caste system. But I failed to gather evidence in Rigveda that it forbids intercaste mobility. But some extracts from Manu Samhita seems to define jobs in relation to individual castes. My question is should we consider Manu Samhita to be the steeping stone to rigidify the intercaste mobility for socio-political reasons? Was Manu Samhita and Rig Veda were composed at the same time? Why caste system was formed? Can anybody share some information on these please? Thanks and regards Monalisa

Two of which I remember right now are at www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info, Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Vol 3, Lectures from Colombo to Almora, The future of India and Vol 4, Translations: Prose, Modern India.
