Guest guest
Caste debate I agree with Milena that the issue is complex. The hereditary caste teachings instead of being shown as a 'blip' in Hindu system are used to 'blot out everything good and grand in Hinduism' hence it becomes necessary for people like us to use langauge like 'sell-by-date of Manu.' The 'progressive idea of caste' as suggested by Vivekananda is already becoming visible i.e. a Roadsweeper's son (Shudra) can elect to become a teacher (a Brahmin). The changing economic landscape of India will force this evolved caste system to come into operation. jay
