Guest guest
Sir Ramakrishna was never in favour of any kind of animal slaughter. He tried his best to stop it but due to the very strong orthodox priestly class he could not stop it. He even told some devotees during one Kali Puja that Maa Kaali had told him cracking a coconut was enough, that itself was a sacrifice. So after his passing away .. slowly as people became less orthodox , animal slaughter was stopped in many temples and in homes having Kali temples. There is no animal sacrifice at Dakshineshwar today. In fact when they telecast the Kaali Puja live last year, a person incharge of the festivities said that goat sacrifice was stopped there many years ago just as Sri Ramakrishna had wished. Again there was this incident when Rani Rashmoni's elder daughter and her husband wanted to perform Durga Puja in their home at Jaanbazaar. Their descendants still perform Durga Puja. They had said on TV a few years ago that they have never sacrificed any goat during the Puja. This was because the inaugural Puja was attended by Sri Ramakrishna and he had asked Rani Rashmoni's daughter and her husband not to slaughter any goat. They had listened to him and till today the tradition continues. Whatever I have written is true and anyone can confirm these facts. I replied that I would try to find out the answer. Can you answer the question? --Girish (of SRKP & WHSW) (SRKP is the acronym for Sri RamaKrishna Parivar.
