Guest guest
Glen Vivekananda was strongly inspired by the life and teachings of Buddha. At a young age he had a vision of a monk (and many suspect) it was Buddha. With Vivekananda / Ramakrishna we see a reconciliation of vastly differing approaches in the field of spirituality. With them comes the idea that spiritual progress can be made in: Theistic Mode; In a non-theistic mode; and even in a non-religious mode. One is not better than the other. The one that suits our temperament is best for us. Though Hinduism with its idea of Atman and Buddhism with its An-atman may seem to be diagonally opposed, at the experiential level the difference disappears. The same experience given different verbal expression! Advaita Hinduism is technically indistinguishable from esoteric Buddhism jay - Glen Halls Ramakrishna Friday, December 11, 2009 8:27 PM [sri Ramakrishna] hindu/buddhist hi What would a Ramakrishna Hindu or other Hindu tend to think about Buddhism? I would guess they would think it a very suitable path for a certain kind of person. glen
Guest guest
Lord Buddha is worshipped at all Ramakrishna / Sarada centres. I may be wrong but I was given to understand that the Hindus consider Lord Buddha as one of Vishnu's Avatars. The devotees of Sri Ramakrishna revere Lord Buddha and Jesus Christ the same way they revere Sri Ramakrishna. As for Buddhism being "suitable path", Sri Ramakrishna says all paths lead to the same goal. Guest guest
Hi Geln, Lord Buddha was not keen to allow the formation of a nunery and when He deigned His disciple Ananda's request He asked the women to report to the men. Sri Ramakrishna, on the other hand worshipped His wife and His disciple, Swami Vivekananda, ensured that the operation of the nunery is not influenced by the monastery.
