Guest guest
Hari Om Ramakrishna Dear group members Pranam While I join the author of the e-mail in requesting Mr. Lakhani to take up the huge task, I do remember having seen a Hindi movie by GV Iyer, named Swami Vivekaknda - the songs are available in the web but not the movie. Guest guest
Om RamaKrishna: February 8, 2010 Namakar. It seems like a divine coincidence that I posted and mailed the following WIDER HORIZONS Weekly (WHSW) column today. Yes, epic feature films VIVEKANANDA, and RAMAKRISHNA have been my dream projcts from so many years. But I have yet to find a filmmaker like Richard Attenborough whose film GANDHI was my inspiration to write the screenplay for the film VIVEKANANDA. Guest guest
Hari Om Ramakrishna Dear Mr. Parikh and Groupmembers, Pranam I am sorry but I do not believe that a movie on Sri Ramakrishna or Swami Vivekananda would be commercially as successful as Attenborough's Gandhi has been which is why it would be hard to find a filmmaker because while Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence, though a new concept, could easily be appreciated by the mass (rightly or wrongly), the concept of Monoism is not something that most people can appreciate (most Christian do not understand how Jesus could be both the Son of God and the Father in the Heaven as well while the Muslims think that the concept is tantamount to blasphemy). The positive point is that most of the places associated with Swamiji are in the US and His life involved several westerners. Also, it is fraught with the danger Sri Ramakrishna' character being depicted wrongly just like the existing movies, TV serials and dramas on Sri Ramakrihsna do so by making Him appear to be somewhat eccentric, hesitant, afraid unless of course the film maker studies the philosophy and spends time with the likes of Rev. Swami Chetananadaji Maharaj of St. Louis in advance. His will be done! Guest guest
Namaste All, A Movie on Swamiji titled " Swami Vivekananda " was made by Director G.V. Iyer and Produced by Rajya Sabha M.P. T.Subbarami Reddy in 1994. The movie was made after his earlier movie on Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya the only movie ever made in Sanskrit which won many accolades. Bengali actor " Sarvadaman Banerjee " acted in Both the movies. Jai Sri Ramakrishna
Guest guest
I have seen GV Iyer's film Swami Vivekananda. With all respect I must say that I was not satisfied with the quality of the film. It flopped! The feature film on Vivekananda must be a world class film that can take its place among such great films as Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, and Gandhi. - - Girish Parikh
Guest guest
Hello, I agree. They tried to pull in popular actors to cater to the common masses. Especially the portrayl of Sri Ramakrishna was pathetic.regards,--Sunil--- On Wed, 2/10/10, girish116 <girish116 wrote:girish116 <girish116Re: [sri Ramakrishna] Movie on Sri Ramakrishna and VivekanandaRamakrishna Date: Wednesday, February 10, 2010, 2:19 PM I have seen GV Iyer's film Swami Vivekananda. Guest guest
Regarding making films and TV Dramas on Life of Swami Vikekananda and Shree Ramakrishna, I think it is a very good idea, TV and film is a medium by which messages of Ramakrishna/Vivekananda can be easily reach to common men and women. Even after more than 100 years of Swami vivekananda's Mahasamadhi society et large are unaware of life, teachings and importance of shree Ramakrisna and Swami Vivekananda and Film and TV is the medium which must be used for this purpose. I accept this task is not easy and material is so vast and problems are many, but we must try. If M thought there is no way in words he could descrie the life and teachings of Shree Ramakrishna we wouldn't have " Gospel of Ramakrishna " . Obviously there are limitations of TV and Film medium also. For example How could one show Shree Ramakrishna's spiritual experiences, Samadhi etc. we are also limited by our capacity to understand these personalities, Hence the final outcome would be based on the maker's perception and hence not to everyone's satisfaction. However if we are successful in spreading the spirtual messages by these means i am quite certain it is more than justifiable outcome. If i were to make a movie on Vivekananda I would try to cover period after shree Ramakrishna's mahasamadhi, his wanderings in India and his going to America and return to India. I would try to Portray him as Saviour of Hinduism, Saviour of India along with his messages on Pluralism and Vedanta, and His realisation of " service to mankind is best from of Worship " .
