Guest guest
My question is where are the holy men and how can you be sure that one's opinion of holy men is right? Guest guest
Hari Om Ramakrishna Dear Princess Ratna and group members Pranam, If I have understood your question correctly - you want to know either (1) where to find a Guru and (2) how to know that the one who is chosen is not a fake one because there does not seem to be any reason as to why you would be looking out for holy men. If my understanding is right then you may consider to take a hint from my understanding which is as follows: The selection of Guru is a bit veiled in mystery - it is both a matter of faith and at the same time discretion - somewhat like finding a bride / groom - the only difference is in case of Guru, there is no possibility of a divorce. The good new is that marriages survive even if the husband / wife are found out / known to have weakness etc. There are three statements about Guru: (1) Gurus are available in droves - it is the Disciple that is hard to find, (2) for the right Disciple, Guru will not be wanting, (3) at some stage the mind becomes the Guru and the most important (4) Sat-Chit-Ananda is the only Guru The quality of the Guru does not determine the progress of the Disciple - in Mahabharata we see Ekalahya perfected archery using the clay image of his Guru, Dronacharaya, who refused to train him because Ekalvya was from the low cast while Dronacharaya was the royal teacher. He eventually asked Ekalavya to give him the gift his thumb as the Guru Dakshina. Dronacharaya was unjust but it did not affect Ekalavya. It is said that although my Guru visits the grog shop, He is Nityananda Roy (Sat Chit Ananda). If one is sincere, then one would find the right Guru and also one gets a Guru one deserves. However, in case you just want to know how to recognise a saint then you may note Thakur's words which are "...They would not have several sacks with them or be found mending their clothes or found talking about the grandness of the feast some rich man had hosted.... They would settle where there is privacy for answering to the call of nature...They would be like the python who does not chase the prey... ".
