Women perfrom Lakshmi Pooja early in the morning after taking a ritual bath. In some places women tie a 16 knotted strings in to their left hand and sprinkle water using Durva grass blades. During this MahaLakshmi Vratam, The Sun God (Adithya) is also worshiped and water is offered. This 26 day festival starts from Bhadrapada Shukla Ashtami, on Thursday,August 27th till Ashwin Krishna Ashtami,on Saturday, September 12th.
