Guest guest
Burst The Bubble By: Priya Devi R He claimed to be a man of few words. He said silence is the language of the heart and words are incapable of carrying forth the true import of what lies in the depths of the heart. He did not want his name to be mentioned as he preferred to be 'nameless'. He wanted the discussion to be in the peripatetic way ( walking & talking) and said that great philosophers like Aristotle, Socrates and Plato taught their disciples this way. As he began to talk of himself, his in depth knowledge of spirituality and philosophy began to flow forth from within his mortal frame of an old man. Not to forget that his English was scholarly. It was in Ramanashram, Thiruvannamalai in the southern part of India where my friend and I met him. As we sat near the bookstall in the ashram, we came upon this cheerful and humble gentleman who befriended us immediately. The discussion thus began when we asked of his coming to Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi. He said that in the early years of his life he had suffered a mental disorder. He had learnt from his doctor that a part of his brain had a functional disorder. To add to it his persisted mental problem was an obstacle for him to get married and have a family. However he just mentioned that he came to know Bhagavan through his doctor and said nothing more of it.It was in Calcutta that the spiritual path began to open up for him where he got himself involved with the teachings of Ramakrishna, Vivekananda and other Indian saints as well as Greek philosophers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. It is extreme pain or marvelous joy that reminds one about a Master who is the controller of all actions in life he said. Quoting from the last words of John Kennedy from the Old Testament "Expect the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh in vain".The As we sat near the bookstall in the ashram, we came upon this gentleman who befriended us immediately humble gentleman's first encounter with his true self was in Delhi when he was walking in Connaught Place. It suddenly dawned that he was not the body that he so long thought to be. He was the limitless self. " So I threw away my body" he said. " If I don't like this stick, all I need is to throw it way". So was it with his body with an impaired brain too!.He realized that true happiness was within himself and the remote to tune to happiness was with him and no where else! "We are all bubbles in the ocean of limitlessness. When we burst we become one with the limitless ocean. Just that people are afraid to burst. I burst and I am happy" thus talking about the disassociation of oneself with the body and the mind which would reveal one's limitless nature and oneness with everyone and everything. " Everything is Bhagavan, Bhagavan is limitless". Hence the union with the divine.'The world is not real but reel'.
