It is celebrated in honour of the Divine Mother (The Power or The Force), representing The Nature. This also is a festival which combines religion, devotion, culture, and recreation. Nine different manifestations of the Divine Goddess Durga are worshipped over the nine days ;Goddess Durga : Goddess beyond reach Goddess Bhadrakali : The auspicious power of time Goddess Amba or Jagdamba: The Mother of the world Goddess Annapurna: The Divine Giver of food and plenty Goddess Sarvamangala: The Auspicious goddess Goddess Bhairavi: terrible, fearful, power of death Goddess Chandika or handi: violent, wrathful, furious Goddess Lalita: playful Goddess Bhavani: The Giver of existenceIdols of the Goddess Durga are elaborately decorated and worshipped in elaborate pandals for nine days, and on the tenth day immersed in a river or pond.
