AHMEDABAD TO SHIRDI SLEEPER / AC COACHES FLAGGED OFFMon, 2nd Nov`09Ahmedabad : Home minister Amit Shah on Saturday rolled out the First GSRTC Sleeper and Air-conditioned Coaches on the State and Interstate routes.The new buses were flagged off on following routes: Ahmedabad to Pune, Ahmedabad to Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad to Surat. The other routes are Ahmedabad to Shirdi, Nathdwara, Jodhpur, Ambaji, Nashik, Valsad, Bardoli,

Somnath, Akola and Mumbai, among others.About the new bus service, Shah said: "So far, GSRTC had to gear up to meet competition from other private operators. But now I feel, it is other way round. Private operators should be ready for the challenge." He added that the GSRTC would come out of the red in the next two years. He said 22 bus depots and seven bus stations have been chosen for modernisation.He said that the GSRTC would be allowed to fill up vacancies over the next five years in a transparent way so that the corporation keeps getting experiences staff on a gradual basis. Acknowledging importance of staff members, Shah advised and warned employees unions not to indulge in arm-twisting tactics when the state government itself was serious and positive about meeting their genuine demands. He told the employees to prepare themselves for the total computerisation of records and operations in their own interest to avert

redundancy.Also, Starting from November 15, thalassemic patients and their escorts will get 50 per cent concession in fares on GSRTC buses. This was announced by State Home minister Amit Shah on Saturday.Shah said the decision was taken in view of problems the patients are facing especially in remote areas in getting blood transfusion.
