Major Fire at a Chemical Factory near Shirdi in MaharashtraSunday 17th Jan`2010Kopargaon (Shirdi): A Major Fire has occurred with an explosion triggered at Sainath Chemicals factory in MIDC in Kopargaon,near popular religious center Shirdi, and has reportedly escalated to the nearby shops. Eight people were seriously injured by the Explosion in the Kopargaon Industrial estate, that led to a devastating fire, police said. Initially, the explosion took place in a Reactor in the Sainath Chemical company around 20:45 hrs and eventually led to a fire, engulfing the entire Estate. Due to the Impact of the Explosion, the adjoining area within 25 kms radius of the Estate shook, leading to panic amongst the people.Fifteen Fire Engines from Kapargaon, Shirdi, Ahmednagar and Shrirampur rushed to the spot and

were still battling the Flames.The Deputy Superintendent of police, Ahmednagar district, Mr.Srikant Jawade told UNI that the injured were rushed to the Local Muley hospital, where condition of four was critical. Power supply in the entire area was cut off as a precautionary measure, he said.Police personnel have cordoned off the area and efforts to control the flames are on. The latest reports stated that more explosions are still taking place at the chemical factory. The amount of loss caused to the properties could not be estimated initially.
