Ratha Saptami is one of the biggest festivals observed during Magha Maasam or month. It is celebrated on Magh Shukla Saptami. Ratha Saptami festival is dedicated to Surya Bhagwaan and the Lord is worshipped for better health and wellbeing.Ratha Saptami is also known as Surya Jayanti

 

During Ratha Saptami, women draw rangoli or kolam or muggu in front of their houses to welcome the healthy and pleasant rays of Sun God. The Rangolis are drawn in a chariot shape signifying seven horses of Surya bhagwan.

 

At Tirumala Tirupati Balaji temple, Ratha Saptami festival is a grand event which attracts a large number of devotees. Ratha Saptami celebrations at Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple are known as Ardha Brahmotsavam. During the festival, Lord Venkateshwara Swamy (Malayappa Swamy) along with his divine consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi are taken to a procession in Thiru Mada streets in Tirumala.

 

The Divine Lord Venkateswara is carried on various Vahanas today, the Vahanas and the timings of the Divine Processions are given below :

 

9 – 10 am – Chinna Sesha Vahanam seva 11 am – 12pm Garuda Vahana seva 1 – 2 pm – Hanumantha Vahanam seva 2 – 3 pm – Chakrasnanam 4 – 5 pm – Kalpavruksha Vahana seva 6 – 7 pm – Sarvabhoopala Vahana seva 8 – 9 pm – Chandraprabha vahana seva
