Teachings of Swami Vivekananda

The Absolute cannot be worshipped, so we must worship a manifestation, such a one as has our nature. Jesus had our nature; he became the Christ; so can we and so must we. Christ and Buddha were the names of a state to be attained; Jesus and Gautama were the persons to manifest it. (VII. 29)

Our salutations go to all the past Prophets, whose teachings and lives we have inherited, whatever might have been their race, clime or creed! Our salutations go to all those Godlike men and women, who are working to help humanity, whatever be their birth, color or race! Our salutations to those who are coming in the future - living Gods - to work unselfishly for our descendents! (IV. 153)
