Guest guest
Holi Celebrates the victory of Prahlada over His father Hiranyakshyapu. To get rid of his son, Hiranyakshyapa asked his sister, Holika to enter a blazing fire with Prahlad in her lap, as she had a boon to enter fire unscathed. Prahlada as always was saved by Lord Maha Vishnu while Holika paid a price for her sinister desire. The tradition of burning Holika or the 'Holika dahan' comes mainly from this wonderful story. Holi also celebrates the wonderful love of Radha and Krishna which describes the extreme delight, Krishna took in applying colour on Radha and other gopis. This prank of Krishna later, became a trend and a part of the Holi festivities. Holi is also the celebration of death of Demon Pootana who tried to kill the small infant Lord Krishna by feeding poisonous milk to him. That is why the Holi festival is celebrated in the grandest fashion in places associated with Lord Krishna namely Madhura, Brindavan, Dwaraka, Guravayoor in Kerala and in all Vishnu temples as well. The Actual Holi is on Sunday, February 28 th and the day before Saturday, 27th is the bonfire evening to burn all the wood we collected so far. This is a festival for all ages and for all religions.
