The breaking of coconuts may be symbolising that for an

individual to reach the ultimate ,the ego should be shattered.Consider

a pot immersed inside a ocean .The pot is containing water. The same

water is present outside also .

When we break the pot the water inside the pot merges with the

infinite ocean .In the same manner ,we are also the infinite .

We are so much attached to the name and form which gives the ego

..This attachment to the name and form can be broken through the

paths of devotion ( where everything becomes " YOU " and there is no " I

" ) or through the path of Gnana ( where everything becomes " I " ) .

Only when the ego is broken we come to realise who we are - we come

to realise that we are the EXISTENCE - KNOWLEDGE - BLISS ABSOLUTE ( SAT -

CHIT - ANANDA ) .A silk worm creates it's own prison .If it wants to

to be free ,it can very easily come out of it .But it feels very

safe and warm inside and doesnot want to break open the beautiful

house it has built of it's own .This very attachment puts an end to

the life of the silkworm .So the attachment to this life is developed

by us and this attachment creates all the pain .Once the attachment

goes , infinite bliss results .The ego and attachment can be killed

only with the help of God and I think that this may be the reason

for the breaking of coconuts in temples .
