Guest guest
Hi All, Shankaram Shiva Shankaram !! Here is a link to some of the photos taken on the tour to Mt. Kailash. http://sadhanapath.com/photos/photos.html Just to give a brief sketch of the tour to those who are not aware. Sixty five-strong samratchanite group came to Kathmandu. Most of us flew from Bangalore to Kathmandu. Few others who joined us in Kathmandu were Srinivas from Delhi, Mohan and Venkatraman uncle from Malaysia, Guna uncle and Saroo aunty from Dubai and and Raja - a mountaineer from Nepal. Besides, Partha along with his friend Kelly and Partha's staff were part of the group. We all landed in Kathmandu on the 22nd of August. The afternoon was free for shopping or any other activities. The next day early morning 7 a.m. I went for the flight of Himalayas which was for an hour. Some of the photographs taken on the flight were posted in my album. After the satsang we went for Pashupathinath Mandir. In the evening there was briefing on the next day's preparations to Kodari border, which is four hours away from Kathmandu, and the immigration issues. We went in three busses from there and due to unexpected landslides on the way it was not until late in the afternoon that we could reach Kodari town. We had a night halt in Kodari and started off early next morning for immigration clearance in Tibet. It is just a river that divides Kodari, Nepal from Tibet. Due to unusual delay in the immigration clearance, we decided to bypass Nyalam which was to be our first night halt in Tibet. Due to higher water level in Brahmaputra, we had to take a diversion and that added another 300 km of travel each direction. Because of this and occassional breakdown of LandCruisers it took us five days to reach Manasa Sarovar. We were accomodated in 17 LandCruisers and 3 trucks accompanied us carrying Gas and other required common facilities. It was a gorgeous site at Manasa Sarovar, except that we could hardly spend an hour or two there as we had to hurry to Darchen Phuk, the foot of Mt. Kailash, which was the night halt for the day. The sky was clear only in the early hours from 7 am to 9 am, and then onwards the clouds blocked the enchanting view of the mountain ranges. After the night halt at Darchen Phuk, we started off to Yama dwar which was an hour drive from the guest house. We had an oppurtunity to participate in the homam performed by Baba and do pradakshinam for Him, symbolically fulfilling the purpose of the trip. We had to start without further delay as the tickets couldn't be postponed or cancelled. In another five days we were back in Kathmandu. It was a total of 1300 kms one way that we had to travel in Jeeps crossing streams travelling on unpaved roads and marshy areas. The terrain was mostly plain though tough. Though there were some inconveniences and hardships, the trip was enjoyable to one and all. Regards, Srinivas.
Guest guest
Many thanks Srinivas. I started having a look and then realised that there are close to 150 pictures. The first few I saw were wonderful. Thanks for sharing this experience. Did anybody take a video?
