Guest guest
Dear all, Was just going thro all the messages here, we could save pretty much and have better internet access now , there are now new schemes from BSNL and Reliance which makes browsing cheap ( BSNL) and fast ( Reliance). The BSNL scheme works out to Rs.499 per month , where in all the calls made to the local ISP Number you specify are free, you will be charged only Browsing charges ( varies from 5-10 per hour depending on the pack you buy). This would be very effective for our browsing center and we can bring down the hourly charges. to Rs.15 - Rs.20 an hour. ( guess laloo knows about this better) The ISDN Line works out to cost somewhere around Rs.50 an hour for a mere 64 Kbps connection , reliance has got a FWT unit which works on CDMA - LG 250P , this wireless terminal works on 3G and has a data transfer rate of 114 kbps, infact people using it say they can get downloads @ 60-70 Kbps, which is almost twice as that of the ISDN setup. It costs around Rs.22 an hour including call and ISP charges. The unit can be bought with a deposit of Rs.1000 and an activation fee of 800. The best part of it is u can take it around the colony and still upload and download stuff from it. All it requires to connect to the PC is a RS232C serial cable that can be made or bought in ritchee street for Rs.150. It is very easy to configure as it runs as a standard modem in any windows machine ( though i havent tried it in linux, it shld wrk there 2 ) . It is actually a stand alone telephone with FAX/Data ports, battery backup in it. I guess people using the net extensively here in India can avail of these schemes and get better mileage from them, love Bharath.G
