Hi All,

SHANKARAM SHIVA SHANKARAM

I am appealing for help to all of you for a patient in

India who is suffering from a rare type of blood

cancer. He has undergone 2 chemotherapy treatments

already and now the doctors at K.E.M. hospital,

Pune(where he has been admitted) are planning to do a

stem cell transplant. The allogentic transplant is

going to cost them $44,000 in total. They are a normal

middle class family and you can imagine their

financial burden. Also he is accompanied by his wife

and a 2 year old daughter.

This is not a spam email since he is a friend of a

person whom I know very closely in Waltham, MA. They

did their B.Pharm together and the patient just got

married very recently in 2001. I am glad to know that

God has chosen me to help them in whatever way I can

and even a smallest contribution will be a very big

help.So please I beg you all on behalf of their 2 year

old daughter to come forward and help them as much as

you can and pass on the word to as many people as

possible in India or anywhere in the world. They will

also send you back a receipt that will help in

claiming back taxes.

Please send your contributions to

Praful Girase as mentioned in the forwarded email or

you can mail the cheques to

Usha Narayanan

5 Totman drive,#2,

Brookside Apartments,

Woburn,Ma-01801.

For your confirmation the doctor`s certificate is also

attached.May God help them.

If possible please intimate me over the email after

mailing the cheques so that I can let you know about

its receipt.

Thanks a lot

SHANKARAM SHIVA SHANKARAM

Note: forwarded message attached.

>>Dear All:

>>

>>Thanks for all the comments on the web appeal. I have incorporated the

>>CPAA's webmaster. After researching the donations procedure through

>CPAA, I

>>found out the following -

>>

>>Excerpt from Shubha Mudgal's (Director new projects CPAA) email -

>procedure

>>for money transfer to the patient's family:

>>

>> " Donations come in the form of direct donations using credit card on

>the

>>site though " citi Credit card " . Citibank deducts 5% on each

>transaction.

>>Donations also come through transfer from bank account through the

> " Bill

>>Desk " . They also deduct 5%. Cheques and demand drafts received with

the

>

>>patients name on the back are also collected. ALL such donations are

>>collated from time to time and sent without any " cut " to the patient.

>Every

>>donor is sent a tax exemption certificate, receipt and thank you

>letter-

>>even donation coming from abroad. We only ask you to send us complete

>>details of the patient (name, age, immediate family background, cancer

>>site, doctor treating, cost certificate from the hospital) and bills

>for

>>the amount disbursed in original. "

>>

>>I think CPAA is a good option for big credit card donations and also

>for

>>stray benevolent web surfers. Also, after talking to Rohini -- it

looks

>

>>like she prefers direct bank deposit (definitely much faster and

>efficient

>>way of money transfer). For this particular mode. as suggested by

>Sujit -

>>we would need a common collection point in US and then we can

>collectively

>>wire the money. Hence, we need a volunteer who would keep tab of all

>the

>>collections in US and wire the money once a substantial sum

>accumulates.

>>Unfortunately, I am in India during August and can't volunteer -- Any

>>volunteers??? Please shout! However, I would volunteer for keeping

>accounts

>>and sharing the information with rest of the group.

>>

>>Now the awkward question about how much to donate? Should we agree at

a

>

>>minimum amount for US based non-student and student donors? I guess

>this is

>>important so that we give people a benchmark to think about their

>>contributions! I understand that this is a sensitive issue, but it is

>also

>>nice to have a benchmark and we need to collect as much as possible

>from

>>US/UK donors. Of course students can make their own judgments as to

how

>

>>much they want to give. Any thoughts, comments, or criticisms???

>>

>>sorry for the long email. look forward to hearing from you and also

for

>a

>>very successful fund raiser. Always remember what Gandhiji said about

>>giving --- " Whatever you do may seem insignificant, but it is most

>>important that

>you

>>do it "

>>

>>Kind regards,
