Revised Oncoming Events in August 2004======================================

 

Aug 9 - Mon- Adi Kirthigai

Special Poojas for Muruga ( Skanda) at all the Murugan temples all over the world.At the six padai veedus ( six hill top temples of Muruga- special poojas are done on this day)- Poojas at the Murugan temples in Samratchana, Ramrajya.- Adi Kirthigai special pooja at the Ratnagiri Balamurugadimai temple.- Devotees carry Kavadi, wearing the sanyasi robes to Muruga with a vow and be on a fast, some pierce their tongue , body and dance in divine ecstasy to the chants of "Vetrivel Murugannukku Arohara"

Aug 13 -Fri - Pradosham( shiva, monthly)

Aug 14 - Sat - Shivarathri( monthly)

Aug 15 - Sun - Indian Independance day -

 

India attained Independance from the Colonial rule of the British on 15 Aug 1947.

Celebration at the Sushil Hari School, Ram rajya and speeches by Baba and cultural programmes depicted Indian freedom struggle and march past of the school students.Hoisting of the tri colour Indian National Flag

A time for all the Indian hearts out there all over the world to remember their Mother India and think of the sacrifice of the Freedom fighters who fought for the Independance of India.

Aug 15th- Sun - Adi Amavasai ( No Moon day)

Aug 15th -Sun- Birthday of Arvindar( Aurobindo) ( 15 Aug 1872)Aurobindo was born in West Bengal, who was in politics and went to jail during the struggle for India's Independance from the British. He attained self realisation and Gnanam in the Jail.

He came to Pondicherry and created an ashram here. He was a loss to Politics, but an asset to Spiritualism. He preached world peace from his Ashram. Once even Swami Vivekananda in his quest for God, asked Aurobindo" Have you seen God"?. But Vivekananda was not satisfied by his reply and then later went to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.

Then a german lady Mirra Alfassa was influenced by Aurobindo and accepted him as his Guru. With his foundation, after his time, she ran the Aurobindo ashram effectively. Even today Aurobindo and Annai are being worshipped sacredly.

Aug 19- Thu - Chathurthi ( Ganesha, monthly)

Aug 20 - Fri - Naga Panchami, Garuda Panchamifestival of the Snake gods & Garuda.

 

Aug 21- Sat- Birthday of Former Prime Minister of India -Rajiv Gandhi ( The late husband of Sonia Gandhi, Congress President, India)

Aug 21- Sat-Sashthi ( Muruga, monthly)

Aug 25- Wed- Birthday of Kirupananda VaariyarA Spiritual saint who used to be very jovial in his spiritual lectures who is no more now. who was a Muruga Bhaktha who wrote the book "Mandiramaavadhu Neeru" ( the Mantra of the Vibuthi)

Aug 26 - Thu - Ekadasi

Aug 27-Fri- Varalaxmi VrathamPoojas for Laxmi on this day brings prosperity Aug 27- Fri - Pradosham ( shiva, monthly)

Aug 28 - Sat - Onam - Celebration at RamrajyaKolam decoration in flowers, Malayalam festival

Aug 29 - Paurnami - Full Moon day.Paurnami( Full Moon day) at Samratchana, Ramrajya, Kelambakkam with Yagams, Baba's speeches, pujas & arthi, Sathyanarayana Pooja in the evenings, cultural events. Food for all.

 

Aug 29th - Sun- Raksha Bandan- trying of Rakshi from a brother to a sister ( brother-sister relationship)

 

Aug 29th - Sun- Avani Avittam This is the day when traditional Brahmin families wear the new sacred thread (Poonool - called in Tamil( men and boys wear it). They do this ritual in a family group in a temple or in a public place, do pooja and yagams and in the steps of the forefathers & fore families, they pray for God's divine grace to be with them permanently.

Aug 30th -Mon- Chanting of the Gayathri MantraThe day after wearing the new sacred thread( Poonool), they chant the Gayathri Mantra.Previously only men used to chant the Gayathri mantra. But now even women also chant it.

SPECIAL MENTION TO BE MADE AT SAMRATCHANA- which Baba made a revolution ========================================================================

Previously it was a tradition that only Men and boys learn the Vedas and chant it. But now in Samratchana,Even women and girls learnt Vedas and Bhagavad Gita and chant it at the temple.

Especially the Sushil Hari school students and to others, Vedas and Bhagavad Gita are taught free to whoever wishes to learn.

The Sushil hari school Hostel students, after their morning duties , before going to school, they all sit in the Central Hall in the School hostel in the morning at: 6.30a.m chant the Bhagavad Gita in a chorus. and also before they go back to bed at night, at 9.00a.m , sit together and chant the Bhagavad Gita in a chorus in deep tones. They say, this also improves in their concentration.

Also previously they was a tradition that only Men should carry the God's palaquin, but now, even women carry the God's palaquin at Samratchana, Ramrajya at the Poornama Brahmam temple in the night arthi.
