Guest guest
Bramotsavam at Tirupathi Venkateshwara temple : 16th Sep 2004 to 24th Sep 2004 - 9 days======================================================================================== The town of Tirupati is one of the most ancient and sacred pilgrimage spots in India located on the seventh peak, Venkatachala of the Tirupati Hills. Lord Venkateswara is also called the Lord of the Seven Hills. The benefits acquired by a pilgrimage here are mentioned in the Rig Veda and Asthadasa Puranas. In these epics, the Lord is described as the great bestower of boons. The Temple has its origins in Vaishnavism, an ancient sect that advocates the principles of equality and love and prohibits animal sacrifice. The Lord Venkateswara Temple is the busiest temple in the world, eclipsing even Rome, Jerusalem and Mecca in the number of pilgrims visiting it. It is the richest God in the world. The Lord Venkateswara Temple is a perfect example of the Dravidian style of temple architecture. Within the three enclosures of the Temple complex is the main shrine with its exquisite glided dome above it. Within the Ananda Nilayam (sanctum sanctorum) is the majestic Swayambhu or naturally formed image of the Lord standing on a lotus with his symbols; the shankh (conch) and the chakra (discus) in his hands and on the chest are the image of the Goddesses Lakshmi and Padmavati. The most striking feature of the awe-inspiring black idol is its fabulous diamond crown, which is said to be the most precious single ornament in the world. Brahmotsavam: This annual festival at Tirupati temple is celebrated for nine days when the sun enters Kanya Rasi from Aswayuja Shuddha Padyami to. Aswayuja Shuddha Dasami during September/October. the festival is especially grand every third year when it is called Navratri Brahmotsavam. On the third day of the Brahmotsavam, the Temple car festival called Rathotsavam is held. Both the Temple chariot and the Lord are cheerfully decorated and taken around the streets of Tirumala. These include the Varahaswami Temple with an idol of Adi Varaha (Magical Bird). Anjaneyaswami to whom a temple is dedicated is said to be the bestower of boons and a protector from all evils. Swami Pushkarini believed to be a pleasure tank of Lord Vishnu in Vaikuntham is nearby. A bath in it is believed to cleanse pilgrims of their sins and bestow prosperity. Pilgrims usually bathe here before entering the main Temple. Other temples are Govindarajaswami Temple, Kodandaramaswami Temple and Kapileswaraswami Temple, among others.
