Hi, With respect to the calling cards available in the US, there are numerous cards offered by companies. I would classify the cards into 3 categories 1. Actual cards that are available at increments of $5 and above. This is usually sold at Indian stores and gas stations and in major grocery stores where you can purchase them, scratch off the back to reveal the pin and start dialing. These are good and many people prefer them because when they are going someplace and they want to call India, they can just purchase one and start calling. The pros: they are cheap, easy to obtain and if you are lucky, you get more minutes than you can actually imagine. The cons: Indian stores are the only ones that have calling cards for each city/state (example: Mumbai, Chennai, only mobile phones etc) so when you buy the card for say, chennai you would get the maximum minutes as opposed to using the same one for delhi or

mobile phones where the number of minutes you get would be decreased. The other stores have Asia calling cards so you really dont know how many minutes you would get for say $5 card till you actually start talking 2. Calling cards from websites: There are tons of websites geared towards providing calling cards to india. The ones that I have used when I first came to the US are razacom cards (http://www.razacomm.com/india.asp), reliable cards (www.reliablecom.com) These were cheap since they offered calling cards for as low as $3 and $4. The disadvantage was that you could not be assured of the call quality. If you are lucky, you would get crystal clear connection and if not, you would waste all the minutes in just trying to connect. Also, on weekends, its extremely difficult to

connect to India and calls had to be made at odd times. 3. This one is my personal favourite. Its reliance india calling card. (www.relianceindiacall.com) The advantage is that once you set up user id and password, you can choose the prepay or pay after use option. Using the prepay option would let you charge the amount you want say $5 or $10 to your credit card/checking account and you would have minutes credited to your account accordingly. There is a pin that you set and everytime you call the toll free number, it would ask you to dial your pin after which you can enter the phone number of the recepient. The pay per use would let you talk howmuch ever you want and then provide you with a bill at the end of the month. This is advantageous because you dont have to be in front of the computer since you don't have to worry about minutes running out.

The call charge per minute is slightly higher than the other calling cards but you get very good quality, immediate connection and no call drops. Other calling cards sometimes have ovehead such as connect fee everytime you dial a number, call surcharge etc. These are all provided in fine print and must be understood. These cards are usually the cheaper ones that promise you say 100 minutes but in reality you get only half of it because you have to pay all the overhead charges. With respect to the scope, there is always a good scope for this industry. The primary reason being a lot of immigrant workers, not just from India but also from other countries. The long distance international rates provided by the local providers here are way too expensive that almost 90% of the population resort to calling cards. The only

drawback is that with net to phone picking up here and the availability of high speed internet in india, a lot of people have started getting net to phone connections for their houses in india. if that picks up, then the calling card industry might slow down a bit. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any additional info. Thanks, Sowmya Krishna Moorthy <krishcare wrote: Dear Brothers and Sisters of Samratchana Family, Sankaram Siva Sankaram..
