The Supreme

Andal requested the Lord to wear the garland she had worn, but Arunagirinatha goes a step further and asks Lord muruga (at Kathirgama) to give him the garland, which the Lord is sporting on His chest. There is a lesson you should learn from this. It is only the chest of The Lord, which can proudly proclaim, "I am the Lord", and only He who is at the pinnacle of spirituality and enlightenment can proclaim himself as the Supreme Lord

When something good happens, we think of God; when we face a test in life, we start rebuking Him. This is the way the human mind functions. While walking on the road, if you stumble over a stone and fall down, whose fault is it -- yours or the stone's? Why do you say, 'A stone tripped me up'. What is the use of blaming the stationary stone; you must have watched your step! The human intellect is full of such pretences, seeking excuses for everything that happens, failing to understand that human beings create their own destiny. This ego serves as the barrier between you and God.

If you have the absolute faith in God, then surrender absolutely. What is the worst thing that can happen to a human being? He will lose everything or everyone and land up on the streets without a shelter of his own. If your faith is absolute in the ultimate Good of God and you truly love God, you must hold on to Him regardless of what happens, even if it means that you will lose every worldly possession in the

process.

Never concern yourself with transient worldly possessions, hold on to the indestructible Lotus Feet of the Lord. Time will prove to others the Infinite care of God for those who hold on to Him always as Refuge.

Yes, He will bestow material prosperity on you; that is not a big thing. Those who taunted your previous material disposition will start feeling guilty, not knowing how to face you in your present enhanced status. So, hold on to God. Experiences in life test your faith in God. Whether you hold on to Him despite the circumstances. And when you succeed in the test, you will be crowned the champion, and conferred with the prize of material success.

Your stance must always be, 'Be it joy or sorrow that I face in this worldly life, nothing affects me. I have surrendered to You all that is mine. You are most welcome to do anything You want to me. In my life-boat capsizes in mid-sea, that too is Your Choice for me. If You choose that I be rescued from drowning, that is all right with me. If You just watch my drowning, that is also all right, because either way, I attain You'.

You lack that fortitude. When life is smooth sailing, you are unperturbed. When there is even a slight hint of testing times, you lose your courage, and start feeling very insecure. Your self-esteem takes a beating, and the whole world seems a bleak. But that is the time when your courage must bloom multifold! You must be led by the words of the mystic poet Bharatiyar, 'Nothing I fear, none I fear'. if you fortify yourself with the resilience of spirit, if you host the Goddess of Courage, you will be blessed by other deities too with all material

successes.

Remember that the Goddess of Courage is the protecting deity; where She leads, all other deities follow suit. Does your knowledge desert you in testing times? No. Therefore the Goddess of learning comes to your rescue if you are determined to face the onslaughts of life. And so will other deities.

This is what Krishna reveals about Himself in the Bhagavad-Gita. There are several Mahaans who have faced such distress in life. Whatever you lose in life, never let go of God. Hold on to Him and He will restore more than what was lost; he will glorify you. The same tongues that condemned you will sing your praise. He

who laughs last laughs best.

And when you regain everything, you would have attained the mellowness of mind not to accuse those who scorned you for their misdemeanor. but they will feel guilty, especially when you continue to be good with them despite their past misconduct. Be much more affectionate towards them than you were before, and they will be in a proper fix. They should start feeling bad for mouthing ill of you. Be pleasant to them; that is the best way to make them pay for their misdeeds. Tiruvalluvar declares, 'Do good to those who do you ill, that is the best way to put them in place'.

God is the Only Refuge. Nothing in this world is true; everything is transitory; God is the Only Permanence. Count the blessings of the Lord when you are in distress; hold on to the Lord's Lotus Feet, amidst all your worldly ordeals, and He will never let you down.
