Guest guest
Shankaram Siva shankaram Spirituality is the subject that bestows equanimity of mind. It is not something that feeds your monetary desires, or sets your health problems right or attends to psychological problems. You are confusing spirituality with materialism, psychology and medical science. Spirituality aims at conferring on you, an umbrella that will see you through the summers and winters of your life. This is the language of spirituality. This is the language Siva Shankar Baba speaks. A true Gnaani does not get disturbed by anything that happens in life Miracles are of all sizes, and it you start believing in little miracles, you can work up to the bigger ones. You may come across a problem and wonder if you will be able to overcome it. Once you get over it, you will gain confidence that you will be able to surmount bigger obstacles too. How much ever you need to toil to overcome the harsh effects of life, never lose your courage and enthusiasm. Avvaiyar said it in two words, ‘Retain Enthusiasm’. The toughest subject can be mastered by one who works hard at it. This is nothing new to the Indian soil. Our ancestors gave several such treasures of wisdom ages before the West did. We have failed to imbibe those and do not pay heed to contemporary wisdom too! It is useful to love yourself. The only being who knows you well and who is with you all the time is yourself. You are with yourself 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Everything else comes and goes. So if you learn to love yourself, rather than yearning for love from an external source, you will be elevated in life. What does loving yourself mean? People have an inferiority complex, that they are useless, they will not come up in life. They lose their confidence and wallow in self-pity. They always want sympathy. A girl will not derive any real happiness from complaining about her in-laws. Yet she will continue to grumble about her in-laws to hundreds of people. What is the way to resolve her plight? Maybe the solution is present in herself or her husband or her in-laws. Then why should she lament to a third person, who is in no way a blood relative? All these hundred people whom she grumbles to, will not be able to find a solution. Co-operation has to come from those concerned only. When the people concerned attempt to solve a problem, they will not waste time in self-pity or external sympathy. When you trust you are capable of doing something and toil with perseverance, whatever you think was not possible, becomes absolutely possible. You will achieve whatever you think, if you think you can and work at it. If you have the determination, you can achieve anything -- you must be able to tide over the calls of hunger and sleep. Happiness is not from an external source. Know that you are happiness personified. Good and bad do not arise from without. If someone reprimands you, do not bother. Tell yourself, 'None can push me down; none can raise me up. It is I who will decide my life's course'. Then you will not worry over someone’s praise or criticism. He who believes in ladders, will not be able to climb up or down without it. He who practices climbing without a ladder, will be able to do everything on his own. Discouragement dares not touch he who trusts himself. There is nothing called joy; nothing called sorrow. If you are in a peaceful frame of mind and no cause for hurry, you will see various forms in clouds. Otherwise how many days in a year do you stand to observe the beauty of nature? The sky never changes – it is you who observe that it is beautiful when you are in a positive frame of mind and ignore it when you are feeling dull or fatigued. If you are happy, the world seems happy to you. If you are sad, the world seems sad to you. Joy and sorrow are offshoots of your thoughts -- the world is neither joy nor sorrow. Assume a game like long jump. A positive thinker thinks, ‘I will jump twenty feet’, runs and jumps ahead. A negative thinker would think, ‘These people are taller and have long legs. Where is the prospect of me winning?’ When he runs to jump in that kind of mood, he will clear probably four feet. He who participates in this World Running Race, in this World Life competition, with a willing trust that he will win, has all the probability of winning. He who fears the outcome of the race, has all the probability of losing.
