Determine how you want to live. Then develop some systems to protect you from whatever disturbs you. The reason why people are not cheerful is because they have decided to be sad. Once you decide that you will be happy, none can stop you. You lose out on enjoying your happiness because you are anxious about what the future holds for you. You have a fear of the future, and this gives you a feeling of insecurity and an inferiority complex. He who conquers fear, is happy. Once you decide not to be afraid of anyone or anything, there will be no reason for undue stress.

Understand this truth: if God decides, you will get whatever you want; if God thinks otherwise, none can give you anything. Everyone in the world is an instrument of God. So, conquer fear. Trust in the wisdom of the Supreme Power. Have absolute faith. And resolve to be happy always. Then it is happiness and nothing else for you. God is teaching you to live in the world. Nothing is a substitute for experience. Experience guides you towards perfecting your life. All experiences are aimed at mellowing you and bringing out the real you from within. There is no need to carry a feeling of self-pity or guilt at whatever happens in life.

Proceed to the next step, knowing that you have grown as a person. But ensure you do not repeat the same mistakes; there is something definitely wrong in repeating the same mistakes. Siva Shankar Baba has become a magnet, because He became a 'Sutha Sathva Vasthu' and got magnetized. Now I am also a magnet. I am also God and this is the experience which precisely an Atma gets. You will get magnetized. An idle candle will be lit by another candle. Then you are also another lit candle and you can light thousands of candles. Like that, Divinity spreads from one to another. That is how this creation continues with promotion for noble souls.

Love does not retain anything for the self, does not hoard anything but gives everything. If you want to give to only some people, then, that is not Love. When this love grows, you will reach out to all people in the world impartially. I have something. So, you also can share it. Such 'giving' is only True Love. This is the state of Lord Siva who consumed even poison wholeheartedly, to safeguard and protect all living beings, in this world. The state which exemplifies that 'For good to happen to the world, my love for the people in this world will inspire me to do anything for them.' This is the mental maturity -- love at its mellowed best.What will people who don't have love do? They will hide and hoard everything within themselves saying they need it all for themselves.

What will people with Love say, 'You can take my very bones, if they would help you in any way.' This is the highest stage in Love. The Love of Kannappa Nayanar towards Lord Shiva, by offering his eyes for the Lord, is an example.

In some situations, you have to be firm. If someone is hurting you, put it across politely but emphatically that he or she is doing wrong by hurting you. There is no use in pretending that you are not hurt, just because you are worried about hurting them! But there is a method: state your feelings in a diplomatic way to avoid confrontation.If you are chased by a dog, no use in running away. Turn around and face it and you will be amused to see it beating a hasty retreat. Similarly, if there is a situation when a girl is being repeatedly tracked by a boy, there is no use in feeling scared and hiding herself. She must face him boldly and explain to him politely and firmly that she is not interested in any such silly romantic notions. That is bound to put some sense into his head.

The right step in one's spiritual quest is to imbibe determination of mind. Have the firm conviction that 'nothing can happen without God's Will. He is our Eternal Escort.' Then you will fear nothing. Understand that God exists; only God exists. When you are really convinced about that, you will get over your fears.

Fear is the root cause of all your problems. You are always worried about what may happen, you are afraid of everything in this world -- right from lightning, thunder, serpents, storms and the dark. This fear has been ingrained in you right from the time you were in your mother's womb. And then during school years, children are made to believe that they would be capable of only taking the cattle out to graze if they do no fare well in their studies. Thus starts their encounter with fear.

Once you resolve that nothing can harm you because you are in God's Protection, you will be unaffected by anything. That is the true mark of a devotee. Rise above fear knowing that you are God's Prince/Princess. Nothing can go wrong. Bhasmasura does severe penance and Lord Siva grants him a boon. Bhasmasura seeks that anyone on whose head he places his hand must be burnt to ashes. For his penance, the boon must be granted. After Siva grants the boon, if Bhasmasura tries to test it on Siva Himself, Siva has to flee. People can come to me, only if they have been devout. Once they come to me, I have to grant their prayers.

They have shown that commitment to God and I have the power to give them what they want. If they try to act as Bhasmasura did, I have to protect myself. This is seen in the Puranas. Someone would have obtained a boon from Brahma but would turn against Him. Some other would have got a boon from Vishnu but bear grudge against Him. Their penance has a power. Whoever performs penance has to get the fruits of his efforts. How can you discriminate against a person when he has really taken up the examination? A person sits in the solitude of the forest, lights up a fire, performs rigorous penance and is prepared to even chop off his head. How can the deity refuse to grant him a boon? So also, whoever comes to me is linked by previous birth connections. I may owe them something in return. When they come to Samratchana, I give them their due. The reason why I quote their ingratitude is to

help others learn from them and refrain from that path. More than my regret that they have steered away is my anxiety that others must not digress from the right path.
