Guest guest
Congratulations and thank you to each and everyone of you who let their voice be heard!! Be Well, Mistyhttp://www..com Consumers Win on the Organic Issue! Section 771 Repealed thanks to your support The organic industry and consumers choosing organic products can celebrate now that Congress has repealed a rider contained in the Omnibus Appropriations Bill that weakened organic livestock feeding requirements. As a result of the dedication and the quick action of the organic community, Congress repealed the rider that would have eroded the integrity of the organic label. The Supplemental Appropriations Bill approved on Saturday, April 12, 2003, by both the House of Representatives and Senate included an amendment repealing the offending language that, in effect, allowed organic livestock producers to feed their animals less than 100 percent organic feed and still market their meat, dairy and poultry products as organic. Your voice was heard and we especially owe a debt of gratitude to Senators Patrick Leahy and Olympia Snowe and Representatives Sam Farr and Ron Kind for sponsoring the repeal bills. Through efforts by interested consumers and the organic community, 71 Senators and 105 Representatives signed on as co-sponsors of bills to repeal Section 771 and paved the way for support for the amendment to the Supplemental Appropriations Bill which repealed Section 771. We have demonstrated the support organic food production has among our customers and, through this support, we all have, once again, helped to keep organic, organic. The New Search - Faster. Easier.
