Guest guest
Hi Misty and other S.A. members : I was wondering if anyone could help me find information with regard to bagged veggies. I believe there was an article concerning research about this in the U.K. a year or so ago where they spoke of the bacteria build-up in these packages. I personally don't buy them because I worry about the loss of nutrients due to transportation and processing etc., and then who knows how long they have been stored in these plastic bags. But if anyone can steer me towards any articles concerning this and also concerning how vegetables lose their nutritional value due to processing etc, I certainly would appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Evonne
Guest guest
Evonne, Dr. Sherry Rogers, in her books on environmental medicine, talks about how food that is packaged in plastic absorbs the plasticizes, which causes all sorts of health problems. Compared to the plasticizes, I wouldn't even worry about the bacteria. -- Donald E. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your response Donald, that makes sense with regard to food packaged in plastic! However, some of the bags the veggies are in appear to be made of a type of cellophane and I think its in these that there is the bacteria build-up. I did a google search and came up with information from Dole (1998) denying that this bacteria could be harmful. Evonne - Donald E.
