Time for School Paperwork - READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU SIGN ANYTHING

 

 

Beware of hidden agendas and hidden vaccines at school.

 

With the recent push for flu vaccine for all the healthy children

schools will may to host " vaccination clinics " (at least during flu

seasons) on school premises.

 

At least my daughter's school laid foundation for such action.

This June, during her registration appointment, I was as always

given packet of forms to fill out for the upcoming school year.

Usual bunch of green, yellow, pink, golden and white papers asking

over and over same questions about child's DOB, grade level, parents

info, etc etc ad nauseum.

 

Among those, there was a little white slip with rather smallish

print, titled " CONFIDENTIAL; PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN CONSENT FORM "

(small print on the bottom says " Forms: Resource Center

Authorization 5/10/02)

 

" I understand this student MAY RECEIVE ALL SERVICES at the XXXXX

XXXXXX XXXXXX School SPRC or be referred to services EXCEPT those

which I have specifically crossed below:

 

*Health education including (long list of topics)

*IMMUNIZATIONS

*Referrals might be made to County Mental Health, Drug Abuse, Family

Planning, Center for Life and other community agencies...Some

referral agencies will be providing services at the Resource

Center...Specific Parental consent will be required for continuing

services with those agencies.

*Mental health services

 

I have read and understand the services offered at XXXXX XXXXX XXXX

School as described above. I consent to such diagnostic and referral

services as might be provided by the staff of XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXX

School and SPRC

 

I also consent to the exchange of this student's health history

between the Resource Center practitioner/counselor/clinic physician

and members of the designated multi-disciplinary team as deemed

appropriate " (my child is NOT in any special ed).

 

I asked the person accepting paperwork what this " SPRC " is about.

She gave me an innocent wide-eyed look and sweetly said, " it's our

Student-Parent Resource Center...we provide crisis counseling for

students when they need to talk, such as in schools where there had

been shootings... " What do immunizations have to do with " crisis

counseling " ??

 

You bet I've crossed out everything except for " health education " ...

but how many parents hastily signed it without reading? Especially

since most of the students in our school come from families where

English is not the first language, low-income families, parents who

didn't get much education or are simply too busy and swamped to read

every word they are signing under?

CHILD'S SCHOOL.
