Guest guest
Hi, Anti-depressants should not really be prescribed to children except in extreme circumstances. The reason why anti-depressants sometimes cause an uptake in suicide is because they are working rather than directly causing these effects. Often in depression, the person is unable to go through with suicidal ideation, due to their mood (often lethargic, staying in bed all day, sleeping etc.), but when a therapeutic effect is felt from the anti-depressant, it often gives the person enough energy and motivation to carry out a suicide attempt before the full therapeutic effect is realised, which is why intervention by doctors and psychiatrists is needed alongside the pharmaceutical intake.
