Guest guest
Comments? Misty L. Trepke http://health. To all our Friends out there--- Our local NBC station recently ran a story on a particular kind of plastic that, while providing containers that are in widespread use throughout American homes today, is now believed by many scientists to be toxic, and thus able to emit poisonous chemicals. They are, most likely, in your home right now. Particularly in your kitchen and bathrooms. Read on to become a little wiser. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- - FIU Professor Dr. Janier Gasana is an environmental health professor who's been studying toxins for 11 years. He says, " Several years ago, researchers found out it caused cancer. One of the proofs was that it was angiosarcoma of the liver. It's the only known cancer that is caused by that product. It is not caused by any other product. It's been proven to be a poison. " Dr. Gasana says it was recently banned from children's toys in many European countries but since the FDA has not yet taken such a stance, it's still in many of our everyday products. " We can't get rid of it, " says Dr. Gasana. " It takes years to scrub the environment of these toxins. " (There's our good old FDA at work for us again...) It's called polyvinyl chloride. If you turn over your plastic bottles you can see it's also called plastic number 3. Patty Sorbino, an international health advocate, worries about plastic 3 chemicals leeching from kids toys, when they chew them and into food containers, when they're heated. Polyvinyl chloride food packaging can include plastic trays in boxed cookies or chocolates, candy bar wrappers, and bottles. Cling wraps , especially the kind used commercially to wrap meats, cheeses and other foods, can also be polyvinyl chloride. Unfortunately, this means that many people are exposed to plasticizing chemicals through food wrapping every day. So how common is plastic 3? It's in our kitchen cabinets, our refrigerators, our bathrooms. The NBC investigative reporters went into local stores and found plenty. They found it in Emeril's Salad Dressing, Act Flouride Rinse, Sesame Street bubble bath, Johnson & Johnson Kids' BodyWash…even organic so-called " planet friendly " lollipops that claim to be free of " yucky: chemicals and dyes...but packaged in a plastic 3 container. Many environmental groups like the Centers for Health and Environmental Justice, are now warning consumers that plastic 3 is more dangerous than any other plastic. In a new video that features a cartoon character named Sam Suds, they claim plastic 3 is in all sorts of products, from rubber duckies to shower curtains. They say unlike other plastics, plastic 3 can't be recycled. And it's made with certain chemicals that help make plastic more flexible but those chemicals can make household air, toxic. So do any of these companies plan to change their packaging? Johnson & Johnson says it's committed to reducing plastic 3 packaging, they promised to change their packaging by the end of the year. And the organic lollipop company says they will now use non- PVC bags. About 50 national groups are now urging American stores to stop selling PVC products. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- - We are able to make available this same news broadcast to all our Members and friends out there, and strongly encourage all of you to take a moment to view it.
