More teenagers are taking their own lives – but coroners may be

failing to recognise that antidepressants are to blame, an expert says.

Teenage suicides have been rising in the USA and the Netherlands during

a period when prescriptions for antidepressants such as SSRIs (selective

Anaemia: Hormone drug is dangerous

An expensive hormone drug, designed to treat anaemia in critically-ill

patients, may be endangering their lives.  The drug, erythropoietin,

has been aggressively marketed directly to patients in the USA, and

doctors have been paid cash inducements to use it.

Avandia: Major danger is in the first year, says new study

Avandia (rosiglitazone), the world's most frequently prescribed drug for

type II diabetes, is every bit as dangerous as everyone says, a new

study has confirmed. The drug " significantly " increases the chances of a

heart attack, especially during the first year of use.  Other studies

have put the risk as high as 43 per cent.

Cough Remedies: Don't give them to the under-2s

If you have children who're younger than two years, don't give them one

of the popular cough or cold remedies.  Several children have died

from overdosing on these over-the-counter remedies, usually because

parents have combined them, not realizing that most have common

ingredients.
