Lycopene protects men from advanced prostate cancer

High blood levels of Lycopene, the carotenoid that gives tomatoes

their red color, decreases the risk of advanced prostate cancer, a

dangerous condition, by 60%. This is according to the results of a

European study involving 137,001 men from eight different countries.

The men were followed on average for 6 years and the benefit was from

the highest blood levels of Lycopene vs. the lowest. The study

appears in the September 1st, 2007 issue of the American journal of

Clinical Nutrition.
