Guest guest
Hi All - Some comments on exercising. My thoughts are that if you choose something you enjoy, you're more likely to continue long enough to get physical benefit from it. It used to be I kept trying to jog, but could only bring myself to do it a week or so, before I gave up in boredom. This happened several times. A couple years ago when I realized I needed more exercise, I sat down and listed all the things I really enjoyed doing. From the list, I chose two physical ones - dancing and hiking. For a year and a half now, I've been line dancing once a week (lessons, then regular) which is an excellent aerobic, as well as strengthening muscles all over and increasing short and long term memory. In winter I hike for a few hours every weekend, in summer I swim (I live in the Mojave Desert). That gives me exercise twice a week. Since I WANT to do these things for fun, I can look at exercise as a side benefit, or use it as a way to trick myself into letting myself have fun when I really " should " be working. Meanwhile, my body is looking great. I was also having trouble with lower back pain (which all of the above helped reduce somewhat). I stood in front of the mirror really focusing one day, and suddenly wondered if I might be using my back to compensate for other, weaker muscles. Possibilities were (upper) back/shoulder muscles and (lower) thigh/buttock muscles. As an experiment I started doing sink pushups (since my arms were too weak to do floor ones). Then I started doing some mini squats. Sure enough, the back pain went away. Now I make sink pushups and half-squats part of my daily toiletries in the morning and night, in addition to line dancing and hiking/swimming. After only two weeks I could see shoulder muscles where they weren't before! Whatever you choose to do, of course, is going to depend on the fitness of your own body, what you want to start with, and what you have fun with. If your body is really out of shape, it probably doesn't matter physically what you start with, anything will help. So do something you like! Do it at home, do it with friends, go out alone or with your partner. But do it. You'll feel much better and probably save a lot of money in the long run, if you do. Be fit and have fun - Susette
Guest guest
Just a note, since this may not apply to you personally, but a note bene for those it might... Many times, lower back pain is related to weak abdominal muscles. The knee bends you mentioned, as well as simple crunches and isometric tensing and relaxing of the abs can be helpful, as well as cutting back a bit on things that for some reason tend to settle in the abdomen, like fatty foods and beer. Good points about choosing something you like in order to benefit from exercise; if you aren't going to do it, it can't help... I have seen a league of exercycles and steppers sitting on the sidewalk waiting for the rubbish man, and a lot of trendy exercise assistants at the Goodwill, too. Stay simple and keep moving... and (standard disclaimer) if you plan on starting an exercise program, always check with your healthcare professional first. Diabetes, hypertension and other disorders may affect the way you need to care for yourself when you exercise. Guest guest
Good Job. Thank you for the success story. Love, Zeb - Caroline Caroline Hanifen Saturday, June 26, 2004 10:56 AM Herbal Remedies - exercise I just did a solid 20 minutes of jogging on my mini tramp. This was an increase from what I have been managing which is usually 10 to 15 minutes depending on when my asthma decides to trigger. This of course triggered a bigger asthma attack when I was done, which I usually breathe out on the 10 to 15 minute jogs. This one wasn't breathing out and I knew it as soon as I felt it, so I went to my kitchen cabinet and broke out my huff n puff (Lobelia and Mullein tincture) and took a shot. Immediately I felt my breathing ease. I then went and laid down on my left side to see if I could breathe the rest out...and after about 10 minutes of not being able to do so and still having choking coughs I went to my cabinet and did another shot of huff n puff. I am happy to say that I can now breathe freely. I will still breathe through the smaller attacks as this way I don't need to take anything to get rid of it...but when I feel a more severe attack...I'm going to go immediately and get my huff n puff. Yeah!! I will also have to keep a bottle of it in the car for emergency purposes as well. CarolineFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Natural methods can sometimes backfire. 2. Guest guest
Could you explain the huff n puff formula, or where do you get it? Thanks! Guest guest
That is excellent Caroline! I have also been increasing my exercise lately, and have taken to using either the Huff 'n Puff or Lobelia about 10 minutes BEFORE I go running. I also take the Female Energy Formula just before as well. I know, may be cheating, but it works for me! Have you thought about taking the Huff 'n Puff BEFORE your exercise? Just a thought... Guest guest
Japanese researchers have found that simply walking to work can cut your risk of developing diabetes. In a study of almost 8,600 mgn with similar sedentary jobs at the same firm it was found that those who took 21 minutes or more to walk to work were 25% less likely to develop diabetes than those who walked 10 minutes or less. The men had similar levels educational and socioeconomic backgrounds indicating it was the length of casual walking that made the difference; September 2007 Diabetes Care
