Guest guest
Hi Sindea. My name is Donna and I am not a doctor, and so I am not prescribing, just sharing a little bit of what I have read and what I would do in your situation. More replies in text below. . . Message: 8 new here and thrush/yeast help needed snip My 11 month old son who has some yeast infection going on in his " private " area and the early stages of thrush in his mouth. Unfortunately we have both just finished anti-biotics (not my normal route, but he had strep and an ear infection that would not stop getting wose, and I had 2 bouts of strep back to back). I am also nursing, so I am taking acidophilous... ### It is my understanding that this is a common cycle. first antibiotics for strep or whatever and then you pay the piper with thrush and yeast infection. The antibiotics kill all the good bacteria that keep these things in check, so they naturally follow a round of anti biotics. ### Ideas? especially need ideas to sooth the pain in both areas... I am using a GSE mixture to spray on his genitals at each diaper change, and am also putting lansinoh on it, cuz it is so soothing and a protectant. in his mouth I am using the GSE mixture... he is so miserable... ### Okay, once again, I am not a doctor, but GSE has similar properties to the antibiotics. It kills the good stuff too, so you might just be perpetuating the situation. Externally it might be okay, but the in the mouth dose will also be going into the bowel and continuing the problem, as would coloidal silver. If it was me I would be using a tea made with olive leave extract, which kills the bad guys but not the good. The only problem with that is that it tastes bitter. So, for the baby, you would have to somehow disguise that and that would require a sweetener and I don't know of any that would not make the thrush worse. So, another option would be Vit O which can be found at www.rgarden.com It kills the bad guys and would kill the good guys in the intestines also, except that it would not make it to the intestines. It would be used up in the stomach area before it ever reached the bowel. It can be used internally and externally. I have an e friend who had a stubborn genital rash that the doctor could not get rid of. She used vit o and in one day it was greatly reduced and in two it was gone. She said she wanted to line up outside her doctors office and give it women who were going in with the same mystery problem. Anyway, it is an oxygen product and works well on thrush and athletes foot, and other fungal annoyances. I agree with what some others have said also, about needing more than plan acidophilus after a round of abx. I use Inner Garden Flora, which is also available through the rgarden people. You can check out a list of what it has at the site. In reality, if you are going for really good re establishing of a good variety of intestinal flora, you would want to shop around and take several different formulas, to get a good variety. In the future, you might want to have some Olive Leaf Extract on hand to fight things like strep and staph, so that this doesn't happen again. Unfortunately, once you have started down the slippery slope of abx, it is hard not to go back to them. But Olive leaf is natural and remarkably potent and does not kill the good guys. Here is a link I found to an online book you can read on the subject. http://oliveleafextract.com/contents.html olive leaf book As far as soothing the area goes. Fresh aloe, right from a leaf is unbelievably soothing. On the ear ache thing. A few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide in the ear a few times a day, might have prevented this whole scenario, which means it could possibly be a solution in the future. Hope some of this helps.
