It seems that cod liver oil is the strongest source of DHA in natural form,

that

why i tend to use it more. I also use several other oils.

Hi Rick and others.

I read a little bit about dha and that it was good for the nervous system, so I

found some that was from a plant source (Royal Body Care product) and took that

and was very pleased to find that some adrenal symptoms I had completely went

away. The bad news was that I started to feel really tense in my nervous

system. I felt like a clenched, nervous fist inside. So I cut down the dose

and it helped, but didn't go away.

So I tried dha from a fish source (NOW Foods brand) and it helped the adrenal

problem a little and was less stressful for the nervous system, but still more

than I could stand, so I stopped it also.

So then I got smart and went to a whole foods product, instead of the isolated

dha. I now take omega 3's, fish oil, with dha naturally occurring in it and the

adrenal help is not a good, but the nervous issues are totally gone.

Okay, so I am sharing all this in case it helps someone else, and also so that I

can ask,

" Does anyone know why dha would stress the nervous system? " and " Why does it

help adrenals? "

The specific adrenal symptom I had was that when I would lay down to go to bed,

as my body would relax, I would feel chills in the area over the adrenals. What

I call adrenal zings. It is like the transition from activity to rest is not a

smooth one and is challenging for the adreanls and an adrenal electrical chill

happens. And the more active I have been the stronger it is when I start to

relax.

I am wondering what benefits any of you have noticed from oils with dha in them.

Thanks all,

Donna

Hi Donna

I know that omega 3 taken to late in the day will impede sleep.

Also if you don't eat red meat you may be short on omega 6 in

which case hemp oil would be better for you.

Hi Donna,

One of the theories behind DHA is that it is meant to help the nervous

system by helping to provide the fatty substance that the nervous system

needs to function well.

Fish sources of DHA also contain EPA - something that can reduce the growth

rate in children. That's because EPA can interfer with ARA (needed for

growth). Also, EPA presents problems for those with blood clotting problems.

The best sources (if using for children) of DHA are plant derived - where

they do not contain EPA.

So, I have no idea why you had nervous symptoms when taking DHA - maybe the

nerves were transmitting their signals better than usual? I really don't

know I'm not a doctor - just a guess here.

I think the adrenal symptoms you are describing are actually related to the

nervous system - hence the improvement.

My late son was on DHA therapy. I found that it prevented his eye sight from

deteriorating rapidly, and his nystagmus went away (this is where the eyes

flicker making it difficult for one to see anything). He also, strangely

enough, began to put on weight as well - he was well below the so called

normal growth chart before starting him on DHA. But that is how DHA was

working in a child with a rare genetic condition - where they are VERY short

in a lot of the essential fatty acids.
