The two stores closest to me are Vitamin City in Long Beach and Rocksolid Nutrition in Cypress. I know Vitamin City carries Solaray's Magnesium Asporotate and Kal's Magnesium Orotate (expensive type of magnesium but is the preferred source by many complementary physicians). I also shop a Mother's Market and Kitchen. They have four stores in Orange County. Closest one to me (and you) is the Huntington Beach store: 19770 Beach Boulevard Huntington Beach, CA 92648 714-963-6667 They carry the largest selection of vitamins I have ever seen. The other Mother's Market stores are in Costa Mesa, Irvine and Laguna Woods. If you ever get a chance to shop at any of those locations, you will not be disappointed :-). Along with a marvelous selection, their prices are competitive for the most part. I was checking my L-glutamine powder that I bought at Mother's Market. It was $19.69 for 228 grams. I think that is a cheaper price than you quoted from your source. What part of LA do you live in? I'm thinking there is a health food store on Hillhurst called Naturway. Guest guest
Dear Pamela, I just looked at my jar of L-Glutamine that I bought at Mother's for $15.95 for 500 grams (1.1 pounds). Guest guest
Hi Frank! WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! I thought I got a good deal! Brand I bought was Mother's line. :-( How far do you live from Mother's? Have you read the advantage of glutamine peptides over free form L-glutamine? Check out http://proteinfactory.com/glutamine.htm Pam Find the one for you at Personals http://personals.
Guest guest
Dear Pamela, Very interesting link. I will have it study it more. Thank you. You might want to look for a book called: The ultimate nutrient " Glutamine " The essential nonessential Amino Acid. by Judy Shabert, MD, RD and Nancy Ehrlich. It covers much about glutamine and glutathione. I live a couple of miles from Mother's Frank Gettingwell, Pamela Southall <southallp> wrote: > Hi Frank! > > WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! Guest guest
Pamela You must know the area I live close to, quite well. Yes, there is a Natureway on Hillhurst (I eat at a couple of nearby restaurants in that neighborhood nearly every day). I haven't been going to Natureway (which is a cramped store with high prices and produce of varying quality) these days, because there's a Whole Foods market not much farther than the Natureway, and it's simply an amazing health food store. The prices for supplements of all kinds, at both markets are very high. The price at " Mother's " (228gms for about 20 bucks, is 8.7cents a gram) is the same as Jo Mar. Actually, the price quoted by a post to you from Frank, below, was much lower, which confused me, because he bought it at the same market you did. The JoMar price came to approx. 8 cents a gram. (1000 gms for $79.70). But Frank claims he paid $15.95 for 500gms! That's just over 3 cents a gram! Problem is, when you go to the MRM website, which is the company that supplied Frank with his Glutamine, their catalog price was $35.50 for 500gms. Perhaps Frank purchased his jar of MRM during a sale. In my first post to the list, on this subject of L-glutamine, I said I didn't know if the quality of these products varies from one supplier to the next. I also read of, what was referred to as Glutamine peptides, where it was claimed, I believe, that the peptides form is more effectively and readily assimilated than the " free form " we call L-glutamine. This same information source, which I think was engaged in selling the stuff, mentioned a recommended dose level. I read some other dose suggestions, but it's not clear to me, how much of this amino acid we need to take, generally speaking. In any case, ingesting 2 grams a day, would cost a pittance at any of the sources mentioned here. Jo Mar allows people to request half-orders. 500 grams at JoMar would cost about $40, and last over 8 months. Thanks for the tips. I hope to try the two markets you mentioned. best wishes John P. - <califpacific Monday, November 12, 2001 10:28 PM Re: Health Food Stores/SoCal/OT > Dear Pamela, > I just looked at my jar of L-Glutamine that I bought at Mother's for > $15.95 for 500 grams (1.1 pounds).
