Guest guest
Hi All, Here is a good overview of Omega 3 fatty acids and how they can effect our health. In the reference section at the end there are 38 papers, most with clickable links, supporting the opinions in given. Full text: http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/71/1/171S ABSTRACT In the past 2 decades, views about dietary n-3 fatty acids have moved from speculation about their functions to solid evidence that they are not only essential nutrients but also may favorably modulate many diseases. Docosahexaenoic acid / DHA (22:6n-3), which is a vital component of the phospholipids of cellular membranes, especially in the brain and retina, is necessary for their proper functioning. Guest guest
Studies have been done on DHA and the importance of it in early development (like newborn including pre-term). Many formula companies now accept this research and have supplemented their formulas with DHA. If anyone is interested, I can forward on bibliographic details of these studies. E-mail me privately if you wish. There have also been studies done on DHA in breast milk - I'm not sure of the exact details of this (like whether or not they found out if all breast milk contains it or whether or not women have to supplement....) Just thought it was interesting to mention! Rebecca T.
