Just ask my doctor?>> ## Michelle, I've always heard the best and most accurate way was having a saliva test done. Sorry, I don't know where. I've seen people on different lists write in where you can have it done. Maybe somebody is reading and will post it. If nobody responds to this, I'll check around and see what I can come up with for you. The blood work the doctor does to check the hormones doesn't always show if there is a problem. > > Also you are very right - this whole thing is hard on my husband. He knows he screwed up big time and he sees me suffering which makes him sad too. Believe me there have been many nights that we both just hold each other crying. Me for the pain I feel and him for the pain he caused me. I guess I am just one of those people that believes everyone can make mistakes (very big one in this case) but that doesn't make them a bad person. I believe in giving a person a second chance, but never a third ) > ## I've seen people who are just real dogs and will never change. I've also seen both men and women who have simply made some serious mistakes that they genuinely regret. The important thing is for you to take care of youself, then you will be in a better condition to make whatever decision necessary for your family. Take care, dear. Also, how is your thyroid? If you lack zest and energy, feel depressed, it could be your thyroid gland that's underactive. Other common symptoms of hypothyroidism include painful and excessive menstrual periods, nervousness, unexplained weight gain, low sexual desire, memory loss, dry and scaly skin, and sleeplessness. Hypothyroidism occurs in one out of eight women by the age of fifty. If do have hypothyroidism, avoid oral contraceptives and tranquilizers, as they deplete thyroid function. Anyhow, > at that time my doctor put me on Celexa. Celexa is the brand name for Citalopram, an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). SSRIs work by raising or restoring serotonin levels and relieving depression. However what is not sometimes realized is that Serotonin and the sister hormone SamE are precursors for Melatonin production and the timing of the rising and dropping of these hormones can effect the night time operation of Melatonin and hence sleep. Therefore ANY SSRI / 5HTP should be taken early AM (to get SamE and Serotonin moving upward with the sun) and not taken late night as you will upset the normal rising and falling pttern of Serotonin, SamE and Melatonin (in the morning Serotonin and SamE go up while Melatonin goes down, then at night when Serotonin and SamE go down, Melatonin goes up). > I was told by someone that taking a combination of Vitamin B Complex, > 5HTP and a multivitamin with antioxidants can help? Some B group Vits help to elevate SamE and 5HTP is one of the raw materials to make Serotonin. My daughter suffered from depression through Uni and I successfully used the following combinations. 1) Elimination of Omega 6 linoleic acid (LA) oils based products. 2) 4 standard fish oil capsules a day (2 with lunch & 2 with dinner, 1.2 g total EPA + DHA). Both elevated Omega 6 and reduced Omega 3 have been shown to be highly involved in depression. 3) 1,000 ug folic acid, 500 ug B12, 100 mg trimethylglycine (TMG) and 50 mg Vit B6 in the morning. (Lowers Homocysteine and boost SamE) 4) 3 mg Melatonin just before lights out. Try to take Melatonin the same time every night. (Boosts Melatonin) 5) Equivalent to 2 g dried herb, Saint Johns Wart in the morning. (Natural mild SSRI) 6) 50 mg 5HTP in the morning (Mild Serotonin booster) 7) 2 g powered Glutamine in water before breakfast, lunch and dinner (Boosts neuron to neuron efficiency) 8) Lots of TLC (Tender Loving Care) This is a low dose, multi protocol approach which worked for my daughter. Boosting SamE has additional benefits as the way this is done also lowers Homocysteine, a real bad guy for circulatory disease. Guest guest
Dear Michelle, Check out the Truehope website (www.truehope.com) regarding vitamin supplementation and depression. Their supplement E.M. Power is having amazing results with people suffering depression. It is strictly vitamins and minerals. Take care. Anna Momto7kidlets [sMTP:Momto7kidlets] Wednesday, November 21, 2001 9:01 AM Gettingwell My intro... Hello everyone - I am hoping that someone here can help me as the medical community is failing me. I am struggling with depression and am desperately looking for some help. My depression started about 14 months ago when I found out my husband was having a long term affair. At that time I was 2 months pregnant with our seventh child and his affair continued until the two year marker (enough on that - just thought you might need the info on why I am depressed). Anyhow, at that time my doctor put me on Celexa. It made me tired all the time and I worried about what it might do to my baby, so I went off it. I suffered through my entire pregnancy and at times the depression got so bad. After I had my daughter a combination of hurt feelings and I believe post partum depression set in even more. My doctor again put me on Celexa and this time after a few weeks I was still feeling horrible, so he increased the dosage. The feelings got worse instead of better and I didn't really even realize how bad they had gotten. My husband and mother convinced me to stop the drugs cold turkey because they realized how much I was talking about " ending it all. " I didn't realize I was that bad. Anyhow, I have been off of the medication for several months now and I am still depressed. It is not terribly bad, but enough to want to do something about it. I am sick of feeling this way and want to get back to be ing a happy person. My doctor won't help me because he feels I should just get rid of my husband and life would be great. I don't believe that because raising seven children alone would be hard, I love him, he really does love me, but screwed up, etc. I was told by someone that taking a combination of Vitamin B Complex, 5HTP and a multivitamin with antioxidants can help? Anyone know if it works and if I can take these while nursing? Also has anyone taken Ginseng while nursing? Is that safe? Also are there any other suggestions for depression? I am on a quest to fix myself since the medical community is failing me. Thank you, Michelle Getting well is done one step at a time, day by day, building health and well being. I think you should quite rightly change your gp, what an arrogant pig to even hint that you should get rid of your husband - obviously he has never found true love. I pray that everything works out well for all 9 of you.
