Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone had any info on the use of growth hormones to treat our disease. I had recently talked to a friend who took it for other reason but the things it did to his body and changed were all things that would help us incredibly. So I want to know if anyone out there has ever used it or has any other info on it. I did a web search but that wasn't real helpful at all. Please let me know. Thank guys

Guest guest
Hormone supplements are artificial and very expensive. Plus your body can become dependent on artificial sources of what should be natural and can shut down natural production. This is also true of the vast majority of supplements out there - And they only deal with symptoms. The only advantage of supplements are they are not poisonous like Drugs. That is why i say most supplements are a waste of $$$ and you develop a dependency just like drugs!! Check out EFAs and how important they are to even hormone production. If you want hormone enhancement try saw palmetto - it works well for women and has the little known Omega 5 in it. ESSENTIAl OILS are a TRUE MISNOMER - THERE IS NOTHING ESSENTIAL about them!! The ONLY TRUE ESSENTIALS are OMEGA 3 and OMEGA 6 and maybe 5.! Guest guest
Hi Tracy Yes oil of essences are mood enhancers which i have used. Birch oil is an original asprin. But Essential Oils is still a misnomer - they are oil of essences. They kind of remind me of people being tickeled with peacock feathers - from the hippie era. :-) Rick Nick Grant wrote: > Rick > > I think you will find that Essential oils are made from the " Essence " of the > plant, hence the name. Guest guest
Wow Nanci, I really admire you for managing to have such a healthy lifestyle. Did you start this lifestyle before the children were born? If not, how did you manage to make the switch and get your kids to go along? Can you give me some tips....I really would like to switch my kids over to this way of eating too but find they aren't going for it at all. They eat pretty healthy but do like the snacks and white flour. Guest guest
Hi Arizona, We satrted no refind stuff when my oldest was about 7 years old. Truthfully I had and have more problem than them! LOL My dh just walked through the house after reading sugar blues and pitched everything in the house that had sugar on the ingrediance list, needless to say it was a trial in the submissive wife area!! :0) I am very thankful that he did do it, the family is much healther! My kids really do not mind, I make sure there are plenty of goodies at home. For potlucks I always have a desert there and I do not limit how much of it the kids take (the rest of the crowd has a lot to chose from). I do not know how old your kids are, but if you do not buy it and bring it home, they can not eat it. At birthday parties they can have 1 piece of cake. When people give them candy or sweets we have " trade-a-treats " They throw the candy away and get to go to the store and pickout any piece of fruit they want,( I spent $1.15 on a nectarine on Sunday.) As for the flour, we just have no white flour in the house, I use wheat in everything. The texture is different and the stuff is heavier, but you get used to it. I can not stand white cakes and pancakes anymore, they have no taste!! You children will respond to your attitude, if you are excited to try it and if you think it is wonderful they will to a big extent follow your reaction. and besides I am the mother and I said that I am not buying anymore sugar or white flour, either eat it or go without! :0) When they want a candybar, have cookies in the freezer and tell them when they get home they can have 2 of those. I cook everything from scratch, but I would do this anyway, you would go broke trying to feed a large family Hamburger Helper or any other store or restaurant meal. I went thru 5-10 pounds of sugar a week plus 2-3 boxes of cookies, and maybe a dozen candy bars or so. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I went into a major depression because I thought I would probably choose death rather than give up my sugar. I had a diabetic uncer on my foot & I knew that unless I drmatically curbed my sugar habit, I would face amputation of my foot. And I realy beleived I would rather lose my foot rather than give up sugar. A friend recommended the Schwarzbein Principle book to me. I read it. I saw how I was jerking around my serotonin levels -- not just with sugar, but with bread & cookies & cake. I realized that for me, it would probably not be a good idea to just cut back on carbos. I needed to cut them out, else my cravings would just increase unbearably. While I would not say giving up my massive carbo habit was easy, it was much easier than I had thought. I found that by cutting out simple carbs (sugar, bread, cookies, etc.) my moods greatly increased & I no longer needed my " comfort foods " to stave off depression. The first week was hit- & -miss. I cheated. I " forgot " . I played with my crabo addictions & I saw clearly how eating small amounts triggered desires for much larger binges. Every time I ate sugar because I was feeling low, that caused more depression a few short hours later unless I ate even more sugar. By cutting almost all out (rather than trying to cut back slowly) the intense cravings went down dramatically. Oh, I binged once in a while, but by week 3, the binges were much smaller & were about once a week. After 6 months, I allow myself some treats (like bread stuffing with my turkey at Yule) but do not real feel the need to binge. I have my favorite brand of cookie. I allow myself 2 cookies a day plus one day a week I eat 4. I used to eat 2 boxes a week -- usually in one or 2 sittings. The only reason I did not used to eat more is that the cookies came from a store 45 minute drive from home & I only went there once a week. Had I bought a dozen boxes, I am sure they would all be eaten in a few days. Now I buy 4 boxes at a time & they sit in my kitchen in full sight & I just take 2 most days. I am not meaning to brag here. Just showing that even I who have had a huge carbo habit can turn my diet around. Just trying to give encouragement to others who might be afraid to give up the comfort foods they know are not good for them. Alobar

I would take a sandwich but that is also carbs. > Marianne Finding healthy food choices is a real pain. It takes experimenting. From what I learned from Schwarzbein, combining fruit with protein or protein plus a bit of fat is very satisfying. For a while I had a piece of fruit along with about 1/4 cup of unsalted nuts. Nut butter (especially home-made) is also good if you have the kitchen machinery to make nut butters. Cottage cheese also works with fruit. I sometimes drink a glass of milk with a piece of fruit also. And yes, I know fruit are carbs also. But a single apple or small peach does not seem to trigger cravings, especially if eaten with protein.] My mother always felt I was a strange boy for liking cold leftovers from the fridge. So I sometimes take a small portion (4-6 ounces) of leftover meat & some leftover cooked veggies to work. Makes a good meal for me, but I realize many people would not want to eat their veggies & meat cold. Probably not practical for taking as a snack for work, but one of the treats Schwarzbein recommends is a baked apple (no sugar) with heavy cream poured on top. Schwarzbein is one of the many who believe heavy cream is not bad for one's heart , nor is it fattening when taken in moderation. I can attest to this with zero weight gain in 4 months of drin king over a pint of cream per week. Alobar

Guest guest
Marianne, Sounds like you're off to a great start. Years ago I also quit all refined sugar and white flour and any other processed foods. I just quit cold turkey and had no problem with my will power. I don't know exactly when I started back into the unhealthy eating but I did and everytime I tried to just quit everything totally since, I am unsuccessful. So now instead of totally giving the things I like up, I limit them to only on the weekeends or once every 3 days. This way I find I can stick to my healthy diet and not binge when I sneak a snack. If you find that you start to have trouble, you may want to try this but I am rooting for you that you can stick it out.
